Join us and help people live healthier lives while doing your life's best work.(sm) These (2) Directors will work onsite (1) at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, or (1) Long Island Jewish in New Hyde Park The Director, Clinical Documentation Improvement directs the activities of the Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) department. They facilitate modifications to clinical documentation to ensure accurate depiction of the level of clinical services and patient severity through extensive concurrent interaction with physicians, nursing staff, caregivers, case management, and medical records coding staff. Primary Responsibilities: Ensures clinical documentation, including modifications, accurately reflect the level of service rendered and severity of illness (in compliance with government and other regulations) for all patientsOversees a system to identify admissions with specific diagnosis / DRG classifications or other categories of admissionsEnsures chart review within 48-72 hours of admission to meet criteriaEnsures periodic documentation review with cases that have a length of stay greater than 3 daysEnsures follow up reviews of clinical documentation are conducted by CDS staff to evaluate whether issues discussed and clarified with the physician have been recorded in the patient's chartEnsures recommendation of possible refinement of principal diagnosis based on Clinical data on admission and concurrently during the hospital stay to facilitate appropriate DRG assignmentInteracts with physician regarding documentation appropriate to diagnosis and support appropriate levels of severity of illness and risk of mortalityMonitors tracking response to CDI and trending completion of DRG worksheets via reports generated by Clinical Documentation Specialists (CDS)Serves as a resource to Physicians / Case Managers and other key professional staff in matters relating to published DRG informationWorks with medical records, finance and physician groups to develop systems to facilitate complete documentation for data reporting purposesDevelops and monitors strategic operating goals, objectives and budget; and reports operational performance, justification and / or corrective actionDevelops and manages direct reports; and oversees the development and management of indirect reportsBuilds and maintains productive inter / intra departmental and vendor work relationships to optimize operationsOversees compliance with government and agency regulationsPerforms related duties, as required
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree, Nursing or related field highly preferred5+ years of experience in an acute care hospital setting Previous experience in chart review 3+ years Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) experience 1+ year experience as leader of staff or projects in a clinical setting Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel Strong working knowledge of PCS and CM - Diagnostic / procedural coding (ICD 10)Ability to communicate effectively with physicians and other clinical professional staff Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree Current, unrestricted RN License PowerPoint experienceRegulatory background and DRG reimbursement knowledge or Inpatient Coding experience 3+ plus years in a leadership position Current certification as a CCDS, CDIP or CCS Careers with Optum.
