Reporting to the President/CEO, the Senior Director of Resource Development is responsible for planning, directing and implementing a comprehensive fund development and marketing program. The Senior Director of Resource Development will have responsibilities for all channels of fundraising, including annual fund, major gifts, planned giving, corporate and foundation relations, government agencies, stewardship, and events.
Fundraising and Donor Stewardship
Manage all fundraising activities, including designing and implementing strategies for generating increased revenue for program and capital needs;
Establish development goals and objectives, and determine the priority activities to be undertaken;
Generate tours of the facilities and meeting with current and potential donors;
Manage effective events;
Create and nurture long-term relationships with current and new funders;
Customize communications and actions for major donors;
Leverage President and Board for meetings, calls, letters, etc. and provide preparatory materials such as bios, history, target ask, context of relationship, etc.;
Personally participate in top-level fundraising activities, including cultivation and solicitations; and
Ensure stewardship plan is followed where all major donors feel engaged, appreciated, and well stewarded.
Engage Board members with mutual respects as partners;
Lead board development committee (set agenda, lead meeting, distribute material for meetings, manage Committee members relationships, plan, and implement fundraising activities); and
Develop fundraising reports for the Board and make presentations at Board meetings.
Planning and Analysis
Use Donor Perfect to set strategies and ensure follow-through;
Manage prospect lists;
Lead bookings forecasting, ensuring extemporaneous updates, as well as highlighting known changes; and
Track outcomes and impact, and analyze results.
Oversee BGCA branding and messaging;
Manage existing and develop new initiatives including website, E-Newsletter, web-based fundraising, and increased use of social media to broaden donor base and awareness;
Oversee creation of all written fundraising materials, including grant proposals, reports, appeal letters, event invitations, etc.; and
Generate positive press coverage.
Financial Management and Human Resources
Manage the Development department’s annual operating budget and revenue plan;
Participate, as required, in the annual financial audit;
Manage and provide strategic direction to Development staff;
Hire, manage, mentor and evaluate Development staff;
Ensure that sound human resource practices are in place; and
Maintain an environment that attracts, retains and motivates a diverse team of top quality development staff.
Maintain Donor Perfect database ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of information (capture and create action items, all major interactions, personal information, relationships);
Partner with Finance to enhance and maintain gift processing policies and procedures, as well as to ensure thorough and accurate record-keeping; and
Establish and maintain appropriate Development policies and procedures.
Identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits, closes, stewards and renews commitments of $5,000 or more;
Designs proposals to meet both donor and institutional needs;
Builds trust and rapport quickly;
Works collaboratively with internal and external teams;
Expresses self clearly and concisely;
Focus attention on important items;
Detail oriented; especially with tracking all donor information and actions required;
Expertise in database management including Donor Perfect to produce professional quality documents in Word and Power Point;
Excellent writing skills; able to produce professional quality marketing materials, grants, press releases and donor acknowledgment letters;
Strong and highly competent manager
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree, and CFRE preferred.
A minimum of five years successful front-line fundraising experience.
Success managing a portfolio of 50-75 relationships with annual goal achievement and year-over-year revenue growth.
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and experience with Donor Database software, Donor Perfect preferred.
