The Risk Management Director provides executive leadership to the State of Minnesota's insurance coverages, better known as the Risk Management Division (RMD). RMD is part of the Minnesota Department of Administration.
The mission of RMD is to Maximize Minnesota's governmental resources by helping our customers actively manage risk. RMD seeks to deliver highly valued risk and claims management products and services to customers at below market rates and to help provide a safe workplace where employees thrive.
As the State of Minnesota's Risk Management Director you would be responsible for directing the state's property, casualty and workers' compensation insurance coverages and related services to state entities. The Director provides executive leadership by providing strategic and financial oversight of the Risk Management Division, Risk Management Fund, and the State's Workers' Compensation program as authorized under Minnesota State Statutes 16B.85 and 176 respectively and serves as a key contributor to Admin's leadership team in making decisions with agency and statewide impact.
Note: The first round of interviews are tentatively scheduled for February 6th and 7th in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Qualified candidates must have a minimum of five (5) years' experience managing a large scale insurance operation and/or a risk management program, preferably in the public sector. This experience must demonstrate comprehensive knowledge in the following areas:
Insurance including property, auto, and workers' compensation
State government and public administration
Budget development and monitoring
Generally accepted accounting principles, as well as accounting and financing
Legislative process and public policy development
Experience must include executive leadership demonstrating:
Strategic planning, visioning, and policy analysis sufficient to
Assist the Commissioner in setting strategic direction for the State's property, casualty and workers' compensation insurance programs
Plan, organize, and successfully implement departmental and division initiatives
Manage complex, competing, and time sensitive priorities
Oral and written communications skills sufficient to
Build consensus and support for the departments mission and objectives with a wide range of individual groups
Communicate effectively with all levels of clientele across widely varying degrees of technical, legal, operational, and political knowledge or awareness
Interpersonal communication and human relation skills sufficient to
Establish and maintain strong working relationships within the department and with other agencies and branches of government
Involve stakeholders, develop consensus, and resolve problems
Build support for the department's objectives with a wide range of individuals and groups
Problem solving abilities sufficient to
Identify, analyze, and resolve a broad range of complex problems and sensitive issues
Bring creativity and innovation to problems with various political, legal, and operational implications
Public Sector experience
Bachelor's degree or higher in Public Administration, Business Management, Occupational Health and Safety or other related field
