The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) Assistant Vice President for Strategic Planning & Initiatives supports a broad range of projects on behalf of the Office of the President. The Assistant Vice President for Strategic Planning & Initiatives will work directly with the president of the University, in coordinating the University's Strategic Plan across the campus, and in leading special initiatives that require the President's attention with respect to program design, planning, coordination, and interaction with internal and external constituencies.
1. Coordinate the Strategic Plan across the campus, serving as the President's representative for planning as needed, and assisting in ensuring progress across units. S/he will operate at the nexus of strategic planning, program development, budgeting and stewardship and will nominally serve as the lead for the tracking and coordination of the University's Strategic Plan; 2. Track progress of the plan through assessment of key metrics, develop strategies to ensure that initiatives are moving as planned, and maintain a dashboard to track progress; Assist the President with special projects and initiative and serve as a trusted adviser to the President and as a convener and facilitator for matters related to the Strategic Plan; 3. Act as liaison between the President's office and stakeholders, brokering arrangements where necessary (e.g. time-frames, parameters, NDA/MOU, etc.) and determining stakeholder requirements. S/he will uses analytical and planning skills to ensure all deadlines are met, reports filed, other benchmarks of projects/proposals are fulfilled and will lead efforts in communicating updates both verbally and in writing to the campus community and external constituencies; 4. Gather and review opportunities with external constituencies as related to furthering the goals of the Strategic Plan and will make recommendations to the President and the Executive Team as to the viability of these opportunities; 5. Manage communications directed to and for the President as related to the Strategic Plan and Special Initiatives and, where appropriate, initiates fact-finding, prepares responses, and/or makes timely referral(s) to appropriate person(s), conduct research and prepare assessment reports and recommendations, meet regularly with the President to receive, update, and review priorities, maintaining familiarity with issues; 6. Attend meetings with the President when appropriate – and on the President’s behalf when the President is not available – lending support and follow-up as required. S/he will solicit ideas and information from, and provide information to, faculty and staff to promote positive campus relations and oversee special projects and support strategic initiatives as directed by the President; 7. Assist the President and AVP for Government Relations as needed especially as related to aspects of the Strategic Plan and positioning the University at the state and national levels; 8. Coordinate, attend and support the President at events to help establish relationships and good communications with the university's many diverse constituencies. This could include events off campus and outside DFW in which case the individual would support the President on trips if needed.
Master's degree and 5+ years of relevant experience
Demonstrated administrative and leadership capabilities including as a Program Manager/Director within an academic, non-profit or similar organization
Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and business development
Superb communications and interpersonal skills, including an ability to write persuasively and clearly with a focus on organization and presentation to a variety of constituencies
Demonstrated aptitude for understanding complex issues and the ability to translate and simplify them for key audiences
Very high level of integrity, trustworthiness, and respect
Flexibility and adaptability, including a willingness to undertake both mundane and high-profile tasks with enthusiasm and energy
Strong research skills and a demonstrated ability to attend carefully to both factual details and strategy
Ability to take initiative and work independently
Work discreetly on sensitive or delicate assignments, exercise sound judgment
Exceptional organizational skills and proven ability to keep track of and meet numerous deadlines; ability to handle multiple tasks in a timely manner and effectively re-prioritize responsibilities
High level of discretion and excellent judgment; ability to work with and manage confidential information
Demonstrated ability to lead and plan workshops and conferences
Master's degree in Business Administration
Qualifications in Entrepreneurship & Business Operations
Experience at, or extensive familiarity with, institutions of higher education strongly preferred
Experience with government relations and working with leadership at academic institutions
