Objective of position: The Head of the Elementary School (HES) assists the Head of Parish School (HOPS) in overseeing the implementation of the mission of the school academic and faith-formation program. The St. Benedict Preparatory academic program is an extension of the faith-formation efforts of the parish. The HES is the administrator, faith and instructional leader of the Grades 1-5 program and serves as an ex-officio member of the local governance board. In addition, the HES works in partnership with the HOPS and Mission Advancement Office to strengthen the fiscal vitality of the school.
Primarily, the HES will be responsible for supervising, coaching and guiding teachers in their professional growth. Further, the HES will be responsible for supporting teachers as they learn and/or master new teaching programs, strategies or pedagogy that compliments the mission of SBPS.
The Head of the Elementary School is responsible to the HOPS.
The HES will meet at least weekly with the HOPS to communicate projects and efforts. S/he may act as a liaison between teachers, parents, board members, athletic board members, volunteers, students, staff and the parish as deemed necessary. It is essential the HES and HOPS present a “united front” to students, families and staff, while open and honest dialogue should happen in private.
The HES ensures that the Grades K-5 school program is integral to the mission of evangelization of the parish by giving witness to Gospel living, spiritual and education development, an a deepening of the faith in all members of the local community. The HES works with the HOPS and Mission Advancement Office to ensure that the school’s programs fulfill the mission of Catholic education in the Archdiocese.
Employee Status: Full -time, salaried, benefits eligible. An 12-month contract will be issued, beginning July 1 to June 30th.
Weekly hours: HES should be regularly present during regular school hours of 7:15AM and 4:30PM, knowing that the school day and school duties often extend beyond these hours. If the HES needs to change hours on any given day, it is the HES’s responsibility to inform the HOPS in a timely manner. The HES needs to communicate planned days off to the HOPS in a timely manner. The HES may be required to attend elementary school programs on evenings/weekends as deemed appropriate or necessary.
