: We are seeking a Manager, R&D Science and E MG for the Multiphysics Applications Department \(1446\), which executes projects across the research\-to\-production spectrum, including significant software projects\. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: + Managing the day\-to\-day operational, technical, and administrative responsibilities of the department+ Overseeing and managing members of the workforce within the department, to include continuous feedback and coaching on performance goals and career development of staff members+ Developing the necessary balance between research, development, and application of Center 1400 software capabilities, while ensuring customer's expectations and mission needs are met+ Developing and maintaining collaborative teaming relationships with managers across 1400 and other key partner organizations across the Laboratory+ Participating in various Center 1400 and Laboratory initiatives+ Program management for various projects within the Advanced Simulation and Computing \(ASC\) program+ Program management for the climate modeling portfolio of DOE Office of Science projects+ Coordinating recruitment, selection, training, performance assessment, work assignments, salary, and recognition and disciplinary actions+ Ensuring a culture that promotes safety and security, as well as a diverse and inclusive work environment+ Serving as a derivative classifier \(DC\) Required: + Bachelor's degree in a relevant STEM discipline+ Master's or PhD in a relevant STEM discipline+ Eight years' relevant experience+ Experience developing and leading an R&D agenda to advance capability development and utilization of those capabilities+ Record of scientific/technical achievement and leadership as evidenced by a history of publication of results in peer\-reviewed journals and external presentations at appropriate scientific conferences+ Current, active DOE Q clearance Desired: + PhD in a relevant STEM discipline+ Two years' leadership experience+ Successful track record of project leadership, management and customer focus+ Demonstrated leadership and network in the external R&D community+ Ability to formulate, communicate, and execute a technical and programmatic vision \(strategic plan\) for the future+ Experience in scientific computing, with expertise in software application and analysis on large\-scale high\-performance computing platforms+ Experience with modern software development using C\+\+, including principles of software quality engineering Department Description: The Multiphysics Applications Department performs leading\-edge software development and technical analysis through physics\-based modeling and simulation, using our applications expertise as "power users" to guide software development at Sandia's Center for Computing Research \(CCR\)\. Our goal is to establish first\-of\-a\-kind uses of this software in diverse applications of national importance, ranging from nuclear stockpile stewardship to global atmospheric circulation, and spanning multiple disciplines of the physical sciences and engineering\.
