Silicon Valley Clean Energy is a community-owned agency formed in March 2016 to bring carbon-free electricity to residents and businesses in participating communities. Member communities include Campbell, Cupertino, Gilroy, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Los Gatos, Milpitas, Monte Sereno, Morgan Hill, Mountain View, Saratoga, Sunnyvale and the unincorporated areas of Santa Clara County. SVCE is guided by a Board of Directors, which is comprised of a representative from the governing body of each member community.
The principal purpose of SVCE is to implement a Community Choice Energy (CCE) program for its member communities. SVCE purchases electricity on the open market from clean generation sources (such as solar, wind, and hydropower) on behalf of customers in its service area. Electricity is still delivered over the existing transmission system, which continues to be owned and operated by the current electric utility. Implementing a CCE program helps achieve local community climate actions goals.
SVCE began serving customers in April 2017. The program serves more than 240,000 customer accounts as it completes its enrollment in 2018. In the meantime, many operational aspects of the new agency and program are continuing to be built. SVCE continues to build its flagship team to develop the key administrative, marketing, and power resource management functions needed to launch and build this exciting and important program.
The Community Outreach Coordinator is responsible for performing a variety of professional duties that advance SVCE’s programs as well as for conducting strategic community outreach and marketing on behalf of the agency. The new team member will initiate and develop key relationships with community members, local business owners, municipal staff, public officials and other key stakeholders, and cultivate partnerships and mobilize public support to expand public awareness of and increase enrollment in SVCE programs.
