The Subject Educator I serves as a member of the Family Development Team to deliver programming and assist with the evaluation, planning and management of Family Development programs to child care providers and parents in Herkimer, Madison, and Oneida Counties. The educator will deliver programs to child care providers on topics including, but not limited to: NYS Health and Safety guidelines, engaging learning environments, program organization and routines, parent communication, program development, developmentally appropriate practice, professionalism, and responsibility. The Educator will provide information to child care providers and parents regarding other Extension programs, community agencies, and services as needed.
Bachelor's Degree and one year related experience. Associates Degree and 2 years transferable program/functional experience may substitute for Bachelor's Degree requirement.
Demonstrated ability to plan, teach, and evaluate educational programs through a variety of delivery methods to reach individuals and groups.
Ability to plan and organize personal work responsibilities according to priorities developed with immediate supervisor.
Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse audiences.
Ability to communicate effectively through oral, written, and visual means.
Basic computer and word processing skills.
Ability to regularly move/transport supplies and equipment.
Demonstrated ability to function as a team member working with staff
Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
Ability to meet acceptable background check standards.
Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
RN with pediatric experience.
Familiarity with OCFS child care regulations.
Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions
Program Delivery - 70%
Utilize existing program materials and educational framework to provide education on quality early care and education, and program requirements to program participants.
Provide research based material to early childhood providers, parents, staff and other groups as they are identified.
Teach existing educational programs as defined utilizing a variety of proven educational methodologies.
Occasionally apply established subject matter knowledge to create lesson plans to deliver educational programs.
Serve as a subject-matter resource in early childhood related topics to parents and early childhood providers, community organizations and the general public.
Provide one-on-one education, coaching and mentoring to child care providers by telephone, in- person or at the provider's site.
Interact effectively with program participants to provide programming support.
Program Evaluation - 5%
Interact with program participants and clientele to collect evaluation data for improving programs and services.
Implement program evaluation as designed.
Assist program leadership in the process of analyzing program data, and based on that analysis, assist in making recommendations for improvements in program offerings.
Communicate evaluation findings to constituents as appropriate.
Administrative Direction - 5%
Provide input in planning the structure of delivering educational programs via various methods.
Assist in the planning of Family Development programs and events.
Assist supervisor in initiating effective professional relationships with other agencies and organizations that promote effective communication to facilitate continued programming efforts.
Administrative Management - 5%
Provide guidance to volunteers and co-workers, including those performing similar work.
Solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise within educational programs utilizing appropriate policies and procedures.
Administrative Coordination/Operation - 10%
Maintain record of program participants, complete reports, and accurately prepare paperwork as required for the program.
On a frequent basis transports self along with program materials and resources to child care provider's sites.
Organize and coordinate activities related to Family Development programming.
Coordinate, compile, and organize existing program resources and program materials.
Provide information as requested to assist with preparation of reports, success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committee, Board and others.
Compile educational resources surrounding early childhood topics.
Complete all data entry in local data system as well as end of the month paperwork, as part of funder reporting requirements.
Professional Improvement - 5%
In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
