Associate Dean for Research College of Veterinary Medicine LIU Post
The College of Veterinary Medicine at Long Island University (Post Campus) invites applications for the position of Associate Dean for Research. As a senior member of the administrative team, the Associate Dean will provide visionary academic leadership and mentorship for development of an accredited veterinary program. The successful candidate must be able to promote LIU-CVM’s mission of enhancing veterinary medical education through excellence in teaching, research and service to a variety of stakeholders. Reporting to the Dean, the Associate Dean is responsible for setting and implementing a research strategy consistent with the University mission. He/she will: • plan, develop, design and implement an innovative and impactful research program that attracts outstanding graduate students and ensures engagement of DVM students in research activities, • promote and build capacity to gain substantial extramural research funding, • develop and implement the policies which support research, • foster research collaborations and strategic partnerships with other units of the University and other institutions locally, nationally and globally, • work closely with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to integrate and promote research throughout the DVM curriculum, • mentor faculty and graduate students to advance their research careers, • provide leadership in budget, resource allocation and operations related to all LIU-CVM research activities to ensure smooth running of the research laboratory, and fair technical support for all stakeholders, • teach in courses offered in the DVM program, • maintain her/his own active research program, • encourage and promote diversity among graduate students, faculty and students involved in research, • ensure compliance with AVMA’s Council on Education Standard 10 for research
The successful candidate will have an excellent record of accomplishment in research and experience appropriate for appointment at the rank of Full Professor. A PhD is required, and a DVM or equivalent degree is desirable but not essential. The candidate will have exceptional leadership and management abilities, a strong commitment to professional and graduate student education, and professional development of faculty and staff. S/he will have the proven ability to promote a culture of diversity and inclusiveness and will interact well with University administration, the veterinary education community, faculty, students, and alumni.
