What We Do Compliance is one of the fastest-growing and dynamic areas in the financial services sector. Since the financial crisis of 2007-2008 there has been intense focus by governments, regulators, the media and the public on the business practices and ethical standards of banks and securities firms. An unprecedented quantity of new law and regulation has been introduced across the world, presenting a major ongoing challenge, as well as opportunities. The Compliance department at MUFG is at the centre of these developments at one of the world's pre-eminent financial groups.
The business of Compliance is regulatory and reputational risk management. It is the design and practical implementation of processes and policies that ensure that MUFG not only complies with the rules, but also that business is conducted in an ethical way, putting the interests of our customers first and protecting our reputation. It requires high degrees of integrity judgement and skill, the ability to think creatively, an inquiring mind, persistence and a keen sense of independence.
Examples of our work include
Working with traders, salespeople and bankers to ensure that new business is fully understood and properly controlled
Ensuring that confidential information held by the bank is protected and only used for legitimate purposes
Monitoring transactions and checking new clients to prevent money-laundering and other criminal activity

Monitoring industry and regulatory developments and analysing their impact on MUFG's business
Implementing new regulations, often as part of major projects
