Under the general direction of the Unit Director/Registered Nurse, functions as a member of the health care team to maintain the clerical functions of the nursing unit.
Fosters, participates and is knowledgeable in Shared Governance as defined at St. Mary's Hospital using the conceptual framework for nursing practice as a guide. Assumes responsibility and accountability for own professional practice, continuing education and competency (i.e., mandatory in-service, staff meetings). Seeks learning opportunities.
Shares expertise and knowledge with coworkers and peers. Assists in orientation of new nursing personnel and unit secretaries. Supports the activities, decisions and initiative of colleagues.
Follows hospital/unit directives; e.g. standards, policies, procedures, protocols. Assumes responsibility for equipment operation and maintenance.
Respects the confidentiality and dignity of patients. Communicates effectively with customers.
Punctual for reports/breaks. Uses supplies effectively. Completes work within required shift, i.e., end of shift; OT minimal or nonexistent.
Maintains, organizes and updates communication to assure optimal delivery of patient care.
Accurately enters/retrieves patient information using computer.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduate or equivalent.
General familiarity with hospital routines, medical terminology and computer data entry. Clerical skills necessary.
