JOB SUMMARY: To assist the VMG Coding staff, within the assigned section, in carrying out the daily operations of the VMG Coding & Charge Entry Department, while simultaneously gaining coding experience
Maintains Coding Proficiencies
Actively pursues 22 non-qualified continuing education credits designated by the VMG Coding Department.
Actively pursues continuing education credits designated by the professional association; CCS, CCS-P, CCS-H, 10 biannually; CPC, CPC-H, 18 annually; RHIT, 20 biannually; RHIA, 30 biannually
Reviews revisions to rules and regulations which govern coding
Utilizes appropriate coding guidelines and references on a continuing basis
Demonstrates the ability to read and comprehend medical record documentation
Actively Pursues Accurate Assignment of ICD-9 & CPT with 50% of the time coding with monthly reviews, coding accurately 95%.
Actively pursues the knowledge and assignment of CPT Evaluation and Management, procedure codes, and modifiers for each patient encounter to ensure appropriate reimbursement within federal, state, and private documentation guidelines with an accuracy rate of 95% at the end of the 90-day orientation period.
Accepts feedback from manager or designee, as part of the learning process
Actively pursues knowledge in each area to ascertain the daily review of patient condition, treatment and response to determine the appropriate level of care provided and procedures performed and/or supervised by the attending physician
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and private reimbursement standards
Actively pursue continuing education in areas of current therapeutic quarterly changes in the above standards.
Serve as resource to physician and others on reimbursement issues
Serve as in-house consultant on all aspects of Medicare Part B and third party reimbursement requirements.
Provide physician education regarding documentation guidelines for federal, state, and private reimbursement agencies.
