Position functions as a Medical Assistant to physicians in the Allergy & Immunology Division in the Department of Medicine. The primary location is South County Center For Advanced Medicine. Position does provide coverage at West County when needed. The primary responsibilities are allergy injection administration, skin & drug testing, drug desensitization, pharmacy refills, phone triage, and clinical assistance. Provides everyday service excellence and adheres to both our Core and Behavioral Standards at all times.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists with retrieving and handling phone messages from the Allergy prescription refill line, triages phone messages and patient questions according to the divisions’ protocols and physician orders in a timely manner.
Follows all protocol and procedures outlined by Allergy Division for skin and drug testing and desensitization, and administering allergy injections.
Documents and enters accurate information and discrete data into the electronic medical record in a timely manner.
Charges for injections, skin testing, and desensitization in the electronic medical record in a timely manner.
Routes phone messages, patient questions, and telephone communications to appropriate individuals and acts as a general liaison between the doctor and patient by calling patients with test results, answering questions, and assisting physician with return calls as directed.
Directs patient flow, assists with special procedures, obtains specimens, instructs/educates patients as directed by physician team, completes documentation and patient requisition for lab tests and diagnostic exams; schedule patients for tests and other diagnostic procedures.
Assists physician team in preparation for office hours, work up electronic charts, prepares rooms, and monitors the physicians’ schedules.
Works as a team with all team members. Assists other team members when they are caught up with their work.
Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
Complies with OSHA, State and Federal regulatory sources/standards.
Participates in quality improvement activities and cross training programs according to established standards and practices, to ensure appropriate clinical outcomes.
Maintains required skills and competencies and participates in educational programs, staff meetings and in-services.
Monitors supply inventory, assuring adequate supplies, linen and equipment.
Assists with training of co-workers.
This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week.

High school diploma or GED; a Registered or Certified Medical Assistant with a minimum of 6 months of related work experience (examples of related fields include military medic, emergency medical technicians, Nurse’s Aide, physical therapy and nurse technicians, and certified athletic trainers); substitutions include:
Medical Assistant certification/registration eligible with successful completion of certification exam within 6 months of hire date or within a shorter time frame if noted by hiring manager
Graduate of an accredited nursing program (such as RN/LPN), or comparable allied health training program with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience
Basic Life Support certification
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program is highly preferred; 2 years or more of Medical Assistant experience highly preferred; electronic medical record experience
Interactive communication skills with ability to work with physicians, patients, families, significant others, and support staff; must have strong interpersonal, organizational, and telephone skills, working knowledge of anatomy and physiology, fundamentals of medical terminology, and experience/knowledge working with electronic medical records
The hiring range for this position is $13.89 - $17.01 per hour.
