Housing and Food Services (HFS) is pleased to announce a Line Cook opening for on our culinary team at District Market. We are seeking an experienced cook who loves working on a solid team in a busy hot deli market environment. The District Market is a neighborhood market with grocery, hot deli and grab-and-go sections that serve approximately 750 customers daily, making it a popular place for students, faculty and staff to find good food on-the-run.

What you'll be doing:
Preparing menu items, including proteins, using various methods such as slicing, carving, roasting, steaming, frying, marinating, grilling, sauting and braising.
Marinating, grilling, roasting, griddling and carving proteins; steaming vegetables and starches.
Reviewing menus and order lists and consulting with culinary leadership on the tasks for the day.
Performing display cooking to customer order, plating according to established standards and answering questions about ingredients, recipes and pricing.
Organizing work to meet daily production goals and service needs.
Guiding the work food service staff.
What you need to succeed:
A Washington State Food Worker Card within two weeks of employment and maintain thereafter.
Possess one year of experience in a retail or food service environment. Experience must demonstrate successful performance providing customer service while leading, training and assigning work to staff. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may substitute for required qualifications.
Desired qualifications References that can verify success:
Reading, writing, speaking and following written instructions in English.
Working with continual interaction with a diverse group of people up to 7.5 hours a day.
Maintaining attendance and punctuality based on a work schedule where hours of work may vary based on business needs.
Experience using email, menu management systems, Microsoft Word and Excel.
Preference will be given to candidates with solid leadership and customer service experience in fast-paced environments, and who demonstrate a strong focus on teamwork and providing consistently high-quality products and service.
Conditions of Employment
A satisfactory outcome from criminal background check is required prior to hire.
A satisfactory outcome from the reference check process.
Membership in the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) Union.
This position will work Thursday through Monday, 1:00 p.m.-9:30 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday, 11 a.m.-7:30 p.m.
