Posting Summary: The Institutional Review Board for Health Sciences Research (IRB-HSR) is seeking to hire an IRB Associate Director into a full time position. This position reports directly to the Director of the IRB-HSR and includes responsibilities in the following general areas: -Develop and apply in depth regulatory knowledge of Federal, State and local regulations and policies governing research compliance. -Serve as a resource for researchers and IRB staff; providing guidance, consultation and education in key compliance review processes and complex regulations. -Conduct detailed regulatory, procedural and ethical review of biomedical research involving human subjects as an IRB staff member and an IRB member. -Serve with the IRB Director as a point person for improvement projects within the IRB office and with other offices at UVA. -Work with IRB Director to update all policies and procedures to obtain and maintain accreditation of the UVA HRPP. -Assist the Director in the overall operations of the IRB-HSR Administrative Office.
Required Minimum Level of Education: *Degree or Equivalent Experience Required
Required Specific Degree/Training: Bachelor's degree required in a medical or scientific field.
Preferred Minimum Level of Education: *Degree or Equivalent Experience Preferred
Required Minimum Level of Experience: Some - up to 4 years
Required Specific Experience: Four years full time experience in an IRB administrative office overseeing biomedical research.
Preferred Minimum Level of Experience: Considerable - 4 to 7 years
Preferred Specific Experience: Experience as a Clinical Research Coordinator performing biomedical research.
Required License or Certification: Certified IRB Professional (CIP)
Preferred License or Certification: CCRC; RN
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: A demonstrated ability to multi- task; identify, analyze and resolve problems efficiently and effectively; demonstrated ability to use independent good judgment and to assess risk; strong experience in statutory and regulatory interpretation and application; excellent writing, communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to articulate compliance issues and enforce Federal , state and local regulations pertaining to human subjects research; ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students; commitment to high ethical standards in research.
