The Adler Planetarium is seeking a Compliance and Contracts Specialist to join our dynamic team located on Chicago's Museum Campus.
As a part of the Human Resources team, the Compliance and Contracts Specialist will be responsible for fulfilling and maintaining annual compliance regulations for our employee health plans, retirement plans, and all employment related government reporting requirements such as work comp, unemployment, and affirmative action. This Specialist will monitor, keep current with and inform the Senior Director of HR of any emerging employment law and regulatory changes and the impact to Adler policies.
Additionally, in collaboration with the VP of Finance & Administration/CFO, this position will review and revise contracts and agreements for all areas of the institution, as well as administer certificates of insurance.
We are looking for a person who revels in detail and loves to keep organized and stay on top of things. This person likes to carry projects to the finish line and remain one step ahead of oncoming trends and changes that affect the employment and business operations of an organization. They have the ability to juggle several projects while still maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines. The ideal candidate is comfortable in a smaller, nonprofit environment where their support is needed for a variety of functions. They have the ability to collaborate with individuals in different departments and build supportive relationships with various vendors. This person is happy to work autonomously and shift gears to bring their skills to different teams in an organization of tremendously talented people.
Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience understanding legal documents, vendor contracts, compliance, and regulatory processes within in an organization
Experience working with retirement plans, and/or one or more aspects of employee benefit programs, understanding of ERISA, and ability to navigate legal contracts and documents
Experience with office software, including Microsoft Office; Ability to learn and work with various vendor software products
Paralegal training or experience as a legal assistant
Experience with HR or finance compliance related functions; Knowledge of benefits administration and understanding of employment laws and regulations
