For this unique Accounting Manager role within our Regulatory Finance –Accounting and Reporting division, you will primarily split your time between managing legal entities and being responsible for the functional development of the statutory-basis Premium Deficiency Reserve (PDR) across all regulated entities. The legal entity work involves overall management of each entity, including but not limited to reviewing the quarterly and annual financial statement filings, annual audited reports, National Association of Insurance Commissioners' (NAIC) supplemental filings and state required supplements, while ensuring compliance with Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), which is based on Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The financial statement preparation will require you to review and approve journal entries in accordance with SAP and Medical Loss Ratio (MLR) requirements. Primary Responsibilities: Review and approve audit documentation and support for external audits, oversee Department of Insurance inquiries and participate in specific legal entity issue resolutionManage communications and board reports for regulated entity officers and directorsThe PDR process involves overseeing the development and reporting of a significant actuarial reserve. Over time you will function as a recognized expert in PDR data, tools, and processes. Plan, coordinate and drive the execution of the quarterly PDR development, reviewing models and supporting exhibits as necessaryCollaborate with actuaries, legal entity management and other stakeholders to conclude on appropriate assumptions and resultsLead the PDR steering committee and ensure pertinent information and results are communicated to regulatory finance leadership, division, and other business leadersMaintain and manage an annual work plan for process enhancement and improvementOversee the annual review of internal PDR controls, certify to the completion of certain controls, and lead the internal audit of PDRManage the external audits and examinations of PDR processes and resultsMaintain and lead training and formal presentations to individuals involved in the processes, business partners, and customersPlan, coordinate and manage the work of others. Monitor compliance with key controls and standard accounting and reporting practices and proceduresDevelop and engage a large team of personnel with direct and indirect reporting relationships through mentoring and coachingCollaborate with other managers on assignments, distribution of work load, feedback, and process improvementsLead ad-hoc projects or working group as time allows
Required Qualifications:Bachelor degree inAccounting or Finance6 years of accounting experienceManagerial experience Intermediate level ofproficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and PowerPointCommunicate in an effective mannerDemonstrate the ability to prioritize and organize work load to meet multiple hard deadlinesAnticipate customer needs and proactively develops solutions to meet themPreferred Qualifications:Public accounting experienceHealth care experience, including Healthcare Reform requirementsAccounting experience handling regulated entitiesExperiencewith Microsoft PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat Professional, Outlook, Smartview and PeopleSoft FinancialsCareers with UnitedHealthcare.
