Responsibilities include processing graduate application, assistantship and fellowship forms; overseeing processes related to internships; handling scholarships; graduate payroll and contracts; preparing graduation; event organization (History Day, academic conferences, panel presentations, commencement ceremonies); assisting in recruiting and retention of undergraduate and graduate students; managing the department website; maintaining and updating confidential student and department files; assisting students with scheduling and registration; coordinating with HCAS, the Graduate School, the Registrar, Financial Aid, Payroll, & Admissions in working with incoming students, tuition waivers, payroll, EPAFs, & the graduate budget; and communicating with prospective graduate students and majors. This person works heavily as an event planner and coordinator for both regular departmental events and special events. These include semi-annual undergraduate interest meetings, the annual Graduate Student Open House, workshop events, graduate fairs, and semi-annual graduation recognition events. This position also serves as part of the administrative support for the African and African American Studies Program. The position serves to help students register and declare their major or minor, help with class registration, and event planning.
