Title: Agronomist Reports to: Director of Technology City: Las Vegas State: NV Oasis Biotech is seeking an Agronomist with a strong background in nutrient recipe calculations, nutrient analysis review and plant tissue analysis review in order to correct the proper recipe for crop selections. The Agronomist will be working in a Cleanroom Laboratory with advanced equipment to monitor projects as well as assist with Production Grow Room inventory. Duties and Responsibilities •Assist Director of Technology in areas of lab research including: work in lab to conduct statistical and data research, look at the genetics and evolution of plants, targeting quantitative data outcomes and outputs with specific results, draft the approach to conduct the experiment and collect classified data. •Conduct experiments to develop new or improved varieties of crops, focusing on characteristics such as yield, quality, disease resistance, nutritional value, or adaptation to specific media or climates. •Perform research to understand the biological and chemical processes by which crops grow, such as determining the role of a particular gene in plant growth. •Specialize in producing and improving crops through conducting experiments and developing methods of production in the laboratory with specialized equipment, collecting plant physiology growth data on living samples, and plant tissue analysis. •Assist Director of Technology and government agencies, business partners, and University researchers on collaborative research projects funded by grants, in-house budgets or by third party /customer funding support. •Assist Director of Technology to manage an indoor vertical farm, with a wide array of irrigation, fertilizer, media, cultivars, pest management, and lighting techniques implemented in crop producing grow rooms and/or within laboratory experiments. •Maintain a clean and organized work environment. •Perform daily water testing and obtain nutrient solutions and plant tissue samples for shipping to laboratories for analysis unless completed in-house when equipment is available. •Monitor gemination chamber with moisture status monitoring, irrigation scheduling, Ag chemical, fertilizer & seed recommendations, and equipment calibration. •Assist with educational / promotional presentations as needed. •Create and modify cultivation SOPs through research projects, to include nutrient regiments for hydroponic NFT systems. •Assist Director of Technology to oversee and manage basic and complex experimental seeding, transplanting, and harvesting procedures for different cultivars with consistency in quality and quantity, measurable by specific testing patterns and procedures in-house and with third party laboratories. •Quantify and qualify data that is produced from computer CEA systems, special sensors, and monitoring lab equipment. •Maintain accurate daily activity records and operation logs as directed while assisting in drafting of the companies Operating Manual. •Assist with sanitation and organization of all equipment present in the company lab. •Conduct minor lab equipment maintenance and trouble-shooting experiments as necessary. •Support Director of Technology to determine staffing needs, recruiting and hiring process. •Assist Director of Technology in the responsibility of managing product quality based on plant tissue and nutritional analysis conducted either in-house or by laboratories. •Support Director of Technology to obtain and manage GAP and GHP certification with USDA or client driven certifications.
Qualifications •Bachelor’s Degree in Plant Biology, Master Grower Certification, and/or other educational and field experience related to the horticultural Industry related to plant physiology, plant biology, or other agricultural fields of study. •Minimum of (3) years managing a grow facility in laboratory experimentation, commercial crop production, or in an educational format to promote horticultural studies. •Knowledge of Horticulture equipment and hydroponic irrigation systems. •Must be able to identify nutrient deficiencies in plant tissue physiology by look, feel, or touch with reference materials as back-up. •Demonstrate knowledge of Ebb & Flow, Deep Water Culture, and NFT growing methods. •Experience farming/growing in a controlled environment related to indoor vertical farming techniques is a plus. •Knowledge of nutrient overdose effects on total nutrient absorption, disease, fungus, algal, and pest identification under microscope with experience in best practice management is a plus. •Knowledge of multi zone, computer controlled climate systems, and hydroponic NFT systems is a plus. •Capable of performing routine management and able to make equipment repair or notify proper personnel when unable to. •Communicate effectively with team to overcome challenges and accomplish tasks needed to achieve company goals. •Ability to plan, trouble-shoot, anticipate problems, and problem solve. •Ability to demonstrate mathematical and analytical skills •Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks at a time. •Ability to learn new technologies. •Proficient with Google Docs and/or Microsoft Office products.
