JOB SUMMARY Leads the planning and implementation of information systems used in the clinical environment and facilitates the clinical informatics enterprise strategic plan. Serves as strategic and tactical leader for clinical information system initiatives across the enterprise's continuum of care Champions and provides leadership for the implementations, advancement and optimization of any new clinical IS systems, as well as support the existing EMR platforms. Responsible for supporting the development, implementation and use of clinical information system to assist caregivers/providers in the delivery of the highest quality and most appropriate patient care. Directs teams of clinical informaticists, learning & development professionals, and eLearning resources for enterprise. Supports clinical & financial leadership for clinical excellence and engagement initiatives for patients, clinicians, and caregivers.
Leads and/or participates in system standardization efforts across all 3 inpatient networks, the employed physician group and aligned independent clinicians for more effective and efficient care to avoid unnecessary variation.
Engages caregivers with varying roles including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, ancillary department personnel, medical office staff, and health information management professionals to contribute to the development and use of the clinical information system.
Leads and/or participates in clinical & process improvement teams to optimize clinical information systems.
Continuously assesses caregiver needs and workflows, including training and support, to assure wide spread acceptance and optimal use of the clinical systems.
Reviews clinical informatics trends, experiences and approaches, develops technical and application implementation strategies and leads the development of strategic plans for future clinical information systems.
Leads and facilitates key clinical leadership groups in the creation of required clinical contents, protocols, workflows and related system usage policies.
Leads design of clinical pathway models with physician, nursing, medical group, and administrative leadership, and assists in modification of these models to gain maximum efficacy and support for patient care.
Works in collaboration with Clinical Leadership Council to develop technology-related policies, procedures, standards, reporting, and methodologies supporting Clinical Excellence Initiatives.
Provides leadership to wider organization practices serving population health improvement initiatives.
Oversees data governance by identifying and addressing critical data quality management issues and monitoring and improving quality data in conjunction with Clinical Excellence department..
Acts as an advocate for the protection of patient privacy and the security of PHI, and supports various regulatory compliance activities including HIPAA, Meaningful Use, and Billing compliance. Remains vigilant in maintaining the balance between security/confidentiality and ease of access of care information, including changes to social media engagement of consumers and other messaging rules and regulations.
Builds relationships with physicians, leaders, nurses and all caregivers to gain support of information technology initiatives as well as communicating with affiliates and referring physicians.
Works in collaboration with the system CMO, senior leaders, and end-users across the organization to develop strategies, plans, technology-related policies, procedures, standards, and methodologies supporting patient care and maintain alignment of clinical informatics strategy with other PeaceHealth strategic objectives.
Participates and supports strategic initiatives to engage consumers for improvement in care and workflow including open notes, patient reported outcomes, open scheduling & eVisits.
Analyzes clinical data with associated clinical and utilization tools as needed to support quality, safety, and financial initiatives.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy from accredited US program required
At least 10 year's experience in clinical informatics in a leadership position required
At least 5 years of post-training clinical practice experience required
Current or prior board certification in a recognized clinical specialty required
Certification or eligibility for board certification in Clinical Informatics preferred
Outstanding written & oral communication skills including large group presentation abilities.
Ability to team leadership, conflict resolution, listening skills, and the flexibility to meet the changing needs of the enterprise.
Skills in process improvement and change management through knowledge of the operational and technical skills needed to meet high quality outcomes.
Ability to enthusiastically model administrative and philosophical compatibility with the Purpose, Mission and Values of PeaceHealth.
Advanced problem-solving skills to address complex issues when bringing the physicians, caregivers, stakeholders, and the community together.
Excellent interpersonal skills and can work effectively with a diversity of personalities.
Knowledge of and support for new models of care to prepare for greater population health focus
Effective consensus builder.
A good grasp of clinical work flow in both hospital and ambulatory settings, and an interest in outcomes measurement.
Ability to develop flexible, transferrable models for pathways of care.
REGION/LOCATION SPECIFIC NOTES This is a PeaceHealth System position, requiring permanent location in the Vancouver, WA shared services offices. Extensive travel through-out the PeaceHealth system will be required
