With minimal supervision, repair, calibrate, and maintain medical equipment and support systems of varying complexity within Michigan Medicine. Primary area of responsibility is as part of the main campus team supporting medical equipment and other areas as assigned. Responsibilities include inspecting, installing, repairing, preventative maintenance, and other support of medical equipment. Equipment includes, but is not limited to, video and endoscopic systems, physiological monitors, anesthesia equipment, OR tables, OR Lights, infusion devices, exercise equipment, ophthalmic equipment, sleep lab and other equipment as assigned.
Work performed is documented in the work order database system called AIMS. Additional duties include the identification and preparation of parts and materials orders necessary to complete repairs and preventive maintenance on assigned devices. Cross training of other Biomedical Engineering Technicians for the purpose of expanded backup support is also required.
Primary job site is at the main Ann Arbor medical campus; however, duties may also be performed at other Michigan Medicine locations away from the main Ann Arbor campus. Anticipated coverage hours are M-F 7:00a – 3:30p (subject to change). Technicians applying for this positions must be able to work any shift, in order to provide occasional backup coverage. The technicians must have and maintain a valid Michigan driver’s license and able to drive a motor vehicle.
Biomedical Engineering Technician Intermediate
An Associate’s degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology, or equivalent Military training is required.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience repairing and maintaining complex biomedical equipment and systems.
Knowledge and experience with computer networking fundamentals.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in the repair and maintenance of medical equipment, preferably in a hospital environment.
Technician must be properly licensed and able to drive a motor vehicle.
Biomedical Engineering Technician Associate
0-3 years of experience in area of specialization.
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Michigan and the University of Michigan Skilled Trades Union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
