NYU Langone Hospital - Brooklyn is a full-service teaching hospital and Level I trauma center located in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Patient Services Associate.
In this role, the successful candidate The Patient Service Associate performs the diversified clerical functions in Registration/Information, Appointments, Patient Care modules and other areas such as Medical Records. The Sr. PSA is responsible for the direct oversight of the PSAs in the assigned department. Duties may vary depending upon the needs of the work site. Maintains the security and confidentiality of patient information at all times.
Greets and interviews patients family or other related individuals in a friendly and courteous manner to obtain pertinent information for the purpose of producing a medical record and creating an appointment.
Screens patients to determine eligibility for financial programs (e.g. Child Health Plus Simplified Medicaid Applications etc.); orients patients regarding the programs available advises patients regarding necessary documentation to apply for financial programs refers patients to other programs in LFHC sites on a timely basis to maximize revenue.
Completes applications for financial assistance programs such as CHILD HEALTH PLUS Simplified Medicaid Sliding Fee Scale
At each patient visit verifies patient insurance/address information for billing and notification purposes initiates appropriate procedures to maintain accurate patient and/or department records. Maintains accurate information regarding what services are covered by each plan any deductibles or coinsurance required.
Answers questions and provides information regarding the health centers policies and procedures and distributes health center information to facilitate patient service
Via telephone correspondence and personal contact communicates with patients to schedule appointments that maximize patient satisfaction. Utilizes the appropriate schedules and Medical record information to maximize efficiency and facilitate patient visits. Screens and refers patient calls for same-day appointments to appropriate clinical/nursing staff
Contacts patients prior to appointments for reminder purposes via telephone and contacts patients who fail appointments. Records patient contact in the medical record.
Follows the network failed appointment process and documents all patient contact in the medical record
Registers and processes patients in all areas.
Able to identify data entry errors in the assignment of but not limited to patient type date of service service-diagnosis conflict and account numbers and use available resources to verify the correct information.
Able to search for a specific patient using but not limited to the following information medical record number patient name and social security number.
Able to enter all applicable charges and enter the correct quantity into the computerized system within two business day of the date.
Able to properly enter correct ICD-9 and CPT-4 codes into the computerized system within two-business days of the visit date
Able to charge and disposition a minimum of up to 250 encounter forms on a daily basis and the ability to submit a daily productivity sheet.
Able to put away and prepare all completed encounter forms for storage and have each encounter form accounted for upon demand
Relieves other employees while they are on breaks vacation sick leave an/or as assigned by supervisory staff.
Reports problems with workflow procedures conflicts and/or other concerns encountered in the workday to supervisory staff
Performs a variety of clerical duties involved in maintaining patient medical records.
Checks medical record for signatures dates permission forms and other pertinent information.
Able to reconcile previous days services with fees obtained from computer/manual reports and amend as necessary.
Performs Cashiering tasks as assigned
Orders receives and maintains adequate forms supplies and charts necessary for the functioning of the Registration and Appointment areas
Delivers messages and carries hand packages between departments in the hospital and clinic as needed.
Provides translation assistance as needed to facilitate the patient interaction
Answers patient calls promptly and courteously.
Able to provide callers with correct appointments.
Able to use customer service skills to minimize the length of time spent on a patient call in order to service other customers promptly.
Communicates any concerns relating to servicing the patient promptly to Sr. PSA
Communicates with the FHC sites as needed to resolve issues of scheduling and patient satisfaction.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a High School Diploma or equivalency required PSA related experience Prior experience dealing with the public and in office procedures. Must be articulate with good interpersonal skills. Must have knowledge of computer keyboard able to type a minimum of 20 words per minute. Must be able to accurately enter data Willingness to devote the time required completing assigned tasks on schedule.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
