The Salvation Army is seeking an experienced Director of Development professional to lead the Divisional Community Relations and Development Department for the National Capital and Virginia Division of The Salvation Army located in the Washington D.C.area.

The Development Director plans, directs, coordinates, supervises, monitors and evaluates the day-to-day operations of all Community Relations Department (CRD) operations for the Division including; direct mail appeals, government and foundation grants, the capital campaign process including Mission Planning Studies, Strategic Planning, Feasibility Studies and Capital Campaigns, Planned Giving, Resource Development, Advisory Boards and Councils and oversee donor database administration. Commits time in the field, in Corps and Area Commands in order to assist, mentor and train the divisional development staff in successful development practice. This position requires a significant amount day and some overnight travel in Washington D.C. and throughout Virginia.
We are looking for candidates with a proven track record ofsignificant success and the following skills and experience:
7 years’ progressive fundraising development experience with a master’s degree in Business, PR, Marketing, or related field OR 9 years’ development experience with a bachelor’s degree.
3 years in a leadership role with responsibility for managing a non-profit Development Department including major gifts, planned giving, communications (or public relations)
Integral knowledge and involvement with a donor/contact management system (i.e. Blackbaud or similar)
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Track record of achieving goals
Adept at developing strong relationships externally with donors, board members, advisory boards, and internally with senior level management, and internal staff from various department
Background includes leading an integrated communications effort (i.e. Online and Offline; Direct Mail and Direct Marketing)
Strong desire to work for a Faith Based organization and the ability to verbalize a personal connection with the Mission of The Salvation Army
