The George Mason University Department of Global and Community Health invites applications for an open-rank, nine-month, tenure-track or tenured faculty position with expertise in public health practice, beginning August 2017. Rank of appointment will be commensurate with the candidate's record of scholarly achievement and teaching experience. The successful candidate will be expected to sustain a robust research program in their area of expertise, publish peer-reviewed articles, seek grant funding, engage in multidisciplinary collaborations, mentor graduate students, teach online graduate courses, teach residential undergraduate and graduate courses, participate in faculty governance, and assume leadership roles with professional organizations and societies.
The successful candidate must have a doctoral degree in public health or a closely related field. An M.P.H. is preferred, but not required. The department seeks applicants with experience in one or more of the following areas of public health practice: (1) evaluating evidence-based interventions in practice settings; (2) community health assessments; (3) community-based participatory research, (4) building organizational capacity of state and local health agencies and community-based organizations; (5) developing applied evaluation research collaborations; and (6) public health preparedness and emergency response. About the Department:
Founded in 2006, the Department of Global and Community Health offers a B.S. in Community Health, an M.S. in Global Health, and a Council on Education for Public Health-accredited M.P.H.—with concentrations in Community Health Promotion, Epidemiology, Global Health, Health Policy, Public Health Communication and Public Health Practice—enrolling over 500 undergraduate and 120 graduate students. A Ph.D. in public health is underdevelopment. The department comprises 17 full-time faculty members with backgrounds in the social and behavioral sciences, environmental health, epidemiology, and global health, who are committed to the ideals of health equity and social justice among underserved domestic and global populations.
Salary: Rank of appointment will be commensurate with the candidate's record of scholarly achievement and teaching experience.
