The University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine, announces an outstanding opportunity for 2 non-tenure track (contract track) full time (100% appointment) faculty positions in Comparative Ophthalmology at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. Rank will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
Successful candidates will have the opportunity to build upon the rich foundation of our ophthalmology program and advance its clinical, research and teaching components. The appointee will participate in clinical service and clinical teaching (50-75% time) with the remaining 25-50% effort split principally between didactic teaching and scholarly activities. Specific effort allocations will depend on the candidate’s interests and expertise as well as the needs of the hospital and department. Clinical service includes state-of-the-art ophthalmologic care to patients originating from the small animal hospital (https://www.vmc.umn.edu/pets), the Piper Equine Hospital (https://www.vmc.umn.edu/equine), and the Large Animal Hospital. It will also encompass providing consultation to over 50 veterinarian colleagues within the Veterinary Medical Center as well as to community veterinarians. There will also be opportunities to work with avian and other exotic animals via The University of Minnesota Raptor Center and The Como Park Zoo. Teaching includes participation in the didactic, laboratory and clinical instruction of DVM students, interns, and residents, provision of training programs for ophthalmology technicians, and providing continuing education to practicing veterinarians. Developing an ophthalmology internship and residency program will be critical to the continuing growth of the service. Creative scholarship that contributes to the generation of new knowledge through primary or collaborative efforts is desired.
