The Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Department of Missouri University of Science and Technology continues to invite applications and nominations for the endowed Hurst / McCarthy Professorship in Construction Engineering and Management. The appointment is anticipated at either the associate or full professor level, depending on qualifications and experience. The appointment may be offered with tenure if an applicant's credentials and record of professional accomplishments so warrant. An appointment with tenure will require the successful candidate's dossier to be reviewed following appropriate university procedures.
The department seeks an individual with a sustained record of professional achievement as indicated by outstanding teaching, significant sponsored research and publications and / or major leadership activities and expertise in any of the following areas: innovative construction methods and techniques; construction safety, productivity, or sustainability; construction and business management. The successful candidate will provide evidence of a sustained record of a highly active, externally-funded research program that is of value to the construction industry, including a demonstrated record of scholarly publications in leading journals and other venues, as well as a strong commitment to teaching excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates must have an earned undergraduate degree in civil engineering from an ABET / EAC accredited program or equivalent and an earned PhD in civil engineering or a closely related field.
Superior communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrated leadership capabilities, the ability to engage in collaborative research and the ability to motivate and inspire students and colleagues are also required attributes. The successful candidate is expected to understand the importance of economics in successful project finance, to appreciate the global market in which we operate today, and to be or become nationally and internationally recognized in construction engineering/management. The successful candidate will strengthen and capitalize on the university's strong ties with industry, institutions and government agencies and build relationships with each. Practical experience as well as being professionally active and visible in national / international societies in the construction engineering / management area will be considered desirable assets. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue professional licensure in Missouri within 3 years of appointment.
The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to be involved in interdisciplinary research within the department and across campus, including collaborative opportunities with campus research centers, such as the Center for Infrastructure Engineering Studies (see http://cies.mst.edu/ ). The department's civil engineering program has recently been ranked among the top 25 undergraduate and top 45 graduate civil engineering programs by U.S. News and World Report.
