The Associate Vice President and Chief Information Officer (AVP & CIO) will lead the University s ongoing commitment to support and promote the strategic use of information technology and telecommunication that advances the academic mission of the University. The AVP & CIO is responsible for the ongoing envisioning of future technology needs and for recommending technology resource strategies, priorities, cyber-infrastructure security efforts and projects that will best achieve the University s strategic objectives. The AVP & CIO identifies and implements emerging information technology and telecommunication trends for campus consideration and develops, recommends, and implements appropriate campus positions and plans to address those trends.
Reporting to the Vice President for Administration and Finance, the AVP & CIO leads the Information Technology Services Division comprised of Network Support, user services, Help Desk, Applications Development, Telecommunications and ITS Project Management.
Lead the development of an IT vision for the campus that facilitates and enhances the research, teaching, and public service missions of the university.
Providing leadership for university-wide IT resources, planning and service delivery.
Build an environment that ensures the campus-wide IT community is responsive to faculty, staff and student academic (education and research) technology needs.
Maintain integrity of University s electronic records.
Allocate information technology resources consistent with campus goals. Coordinate and participate in periodic reviews of the various IT funding mechanisms and allocation processes.
Represent the administration in consultations on technology with various campus constituencies and committees. Participation in external state and local committees and groups such as SMHEC, IPATH, SLATE, etc.
Provide the support services necessary for faculty, students, and staff to effectively and efficiently use and apply information technology.
Evaluate, recommend and promote emerging technologies to advance the campus mission and goals.
Develop and refine appropriate and a comprehensive security program to protect information integrity and privacy. Assure the implementation of campus and system wide security standards.
Continue to develop and refine disaster recovery plans. Lead, motivate, develop and inspire ITS staff.
Develop a long-term succession plan for ITS leadership.
A strategic thinker and planner with the ability to understand complex and disparate business processes and operations.
Collaborative, team oriented style; team builder. Ability to develop solid collaborative relationships across an institution.
Excellent communication skills, oral and written; the ability to convey technically complex information and concepts in accessible terms; excellent negotiation skills.
Able to see the big picture and lead an effective IT strategic planning effort.

Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in an Information Technology, Business, or related field.
Ten or more years in executive level Information Technology leadership and management
Familiarity with the Information Technology needs of a higher education institution - an understanding of the mission, goals and objectives of a university including how information technology supports and enhances teaching, research and academic support operations.
Ability to lead effectively in a diverse, mission driven environment with a variety of different constituencies
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Desired Education and Experience
Advanced degree in an Information Technology related field
Fifteen or more years in Information Technology (executive level) leadership and management
Executive level leadership experience, preferably in higher education
Proven team building experience
Work Authorization/Security Clearance
