TheUniversity of Maryland, Baltimore Division of Cancer Epidemiology in the Schoolof Medicine is seeking a Clinical Research Supervisor. The position isresponsible for providing the highest technical expertise to research programsand projects, as well as overseeing day to day clinical research activities andsubordinate staff.The position develops,recommends, modifies, and implements policies and procedures for clinicalresearch, as well as develop protocol manuals and data collection instruments.
The Division of Cancer Epidemiology conductsresearch to decrease cancer incidence and mortality. Research in the divisionaims to determine how the environment, behavior and genetics, alone and incombination, influence cancer risk and outcomes as well as to elucidatemechanisms underlying these associations, and to identify biomarkers of riskand outcomes.

Supervises assigned staff including trainingresearch staff and students; schedules and coordinates work of staff; monitorsand evaluates staff performance.
Manages interaction process and practices withsubject participants including eligibility screening, recruitment, enrollment,ensuring informed consent is properly secured and documented, counseling, andobtaining patient medical history. Oversees and maintains all study regulatorydocuments.
Using subject matter expertise, performs anddirects research studies and project(s). Develops, recommends and implements policies,procedures, and/or methods for clinical research. Coordinates and develops inthe design of protocol manuals, education materials, evaluation of datacollection instruments, and training materials for subordinate staff.
Performs clinical research activities includingadvanced data analysis using statistical software such as SAS, SPSS, and R; datamanagement (collection, entry, verification); data interpretation, and ensures complianceand clinical relevance of data.
Searches relevant literature, developsconclusions on research findings, writes reports, prepare and deliverpresentations of relevant findings and conclusions, and recommends appropriateactions. Conducts library research and contributes to the preparation andwriting of research findings for publication of journal articles and grantproposals.
Performs Institutional Review Board (IRB) andHealth Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) protocoldevelopment and ensures compliance of research operations with protocols.
Serves as liaison to other departments, outsideorganizations, government agencies, and product representatives to promoteeffective and efficient operation and use of resources.
In collaboration with the PI, designs newresearch studies and modified existing research studies to accomplishdepartment objectives.
Directs and/or initiates facility recruitment;procure equipment and supplies; and interface with others to identify needs andissues related to the program, study, and/or project.
Perform administrative duties such as managingbudget; ensuring compliance with quality control, security, and safetyprocedures; and assisting with contract negotiations.
Performs other related dutiesas assigned.
Education:Bachelor's degree in biology,psychology, health sciences or discipline appropriate to positionrequired.
Experience:Five (5) years ofrelated clinical research experience.
Supervisory:One (1) year of directsupervision or responsibility for training, work coordination, and monitoringthe work of others.
Preferred Education:Master's degree in epidemiology orrelated field preferred.

Mayrequire training related to occupational safety and health, environmentalcompliance, shipping of hazardous materials and/or ionizing radiation.
* Bachelor's degreein an unrelated field with at least 18 credits in a field related to theresearch of the clinic, or Bachelor's degree in unrelated field with at leastone year of experience in a field directly related to the research of theclinic.Except for qualifications establishedby law, additional related experience and formal education in which one hasgained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance ofthe work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experiencerequirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalentto one year of experience.
