OHIO University strives to improve the usability of its web sites, making them accessible to use by individuals of all abilities. This position will be responsible for developing strategies and coordinating efforts to improve the accessibility of university web pages and related content in compliance with institutional standards and legislative regulations. In order to achieve such improvements, the incumbent will assess the current state and develop, track, monitor and report metrics for measuring accessibility improvements over time. This position works in close partnership with Information Technology staff and the University Equity and Civil Rights Compliance Office to advance website accessibility goals for the institution. Further, this position will offer insight on deficiencies in IT accessibility and make recommendations on developing new or adjusting existing processes to increase accessibility for various custom and vendor packaged technology solutions.
Duties will include: - Auditing and reporting on OHIO web sites and web applications for compliance with WCAG 2.0 AA guidelines to web site owners and University leadership. - Evaluate web and electronic document accessibility and make recommendations for improvements to web page and document authors. - Support and training web content editors and web developers on creating web content that is accessible, including development of training resources. - Establishing measurement frameworks for assessing and measuring success in improving web and electronic document accessibility and support offerings. - Stay abreast of accessibility regulations and compliance standards, best practices, and solutions that promote and enable accessibility. - Make recommendations on criteria for evaluating technology purchases as well as the development or adaptations of processes within the organization to increase accessibility as it relates to information technology. - Evaluate technologies in conjunction with procurement processes for compliance with accessibility standards. - Communicating regularly with a wide range of individuals across the university, including faculty, staff, students.
The candidate selected must have the following: - Exceptional written and oral communication skills, technical documentation skills - Skills in working as part of a collaborative team. - Demonstrated commitment to excellence in customer service. - Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Experience in implementing digital accessibility in a government or higher education institution. - Experience using assistive technologies like Read and Write Gold, JAWS, Kurzweil, ZoomText. - Knowledge of accessibility standards as they apply to multimedia. - Demonstrated ability to supervise support staff.
