The Director of the Center for Adult and Experiential Learning is responsible for the oversight of academic advisement for prospective and currently enrolled adult learners. This position requires a high level of responsibility for prior learning assessment measures, student retention and progress towards degree completion. The Director will coordinate the flow of accurate and detailed information to students and faculty alike on academic advisement matters including college transfer credit and articulation efforts. The Director oversees division efforts to establish transfer credit institutional articulation agreements and should possess in-depth knowledge of credit for prior learning. The Director conducts all operational aspects of the Center, including the supervision of an assistant academic advisor and support personnel and works in collaboration with members of the Rowan Global academic and student services team and the larger University community to accomplish center objectives while providing comprehensive student advisement services. Working with campus constituents and academic leaders, the Director reporting directly to the Assistant Vice President, Academic and Student Affairs within the Division of Global Learning and Partnerships has administrative oversight of the Center, and is accountable to work closely with senior administrators, deans, partner institution officials and faculty and staff across the University.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Advises both enrolled and prospective undergraduate students on University, college and department academic curricular requirements, explains graduation requirements to student and provides information about course prerequisites, alternatives, and equivalents.
Assists newly admitted transfer students in transitioning into the University including basic transfer and articulation information.
Maintains accurate data for reports and informed decision making; Oversees the analysis of enrollment and persistence patterns of students and other relevant data collection and analysis.
Maintains an advising load and works directly with students to accomplish educational goals.
Oversees development and implementation of articulation agreements, online orientations, handbooks, and other publications related to this area; Maintains database of established articulation agreements.
Represent the Division of Rowan Global to off-campus groups, business, industry, and agencies; Experience building successful partnerships with businesses, community agencies and higher education institutions.
Significant experience with academic advising, quality teaching, developmental learning and assessment processes.
Experience with Career and technical education programs at the post-secondary level career pathways.
Demonstrates knowledge of the University?s academic programs and requirements and its policies and procedures.
Provide management oversight of Rowan Global degree completion programs and course logistics including: Monitoring course enrollment, building class sections, and reviewing the master program schedules of all undergraduate degree completion programs.
Providing strategic direction and planning for the Center as aligned to the mission of the Division and University.
Responsible for collecting, recording, maintaining and reporting of student records within FERPA guidelines, e.g., grades, registration data, transcripts, mid-term verification and other associated audits.
Assists faculty and chairpersons to establish procedures to evaluate prior learning and determine course equivalencies as appropriate; Serves as chair of PLA advisory council.
Works with the leadership of Rowan Global departments to promote practices that award credit for prior learning.
Collaborates with department chairs on awarding credit for prior learning, establishing an inventory, and developing procedures for departmental assessments.
Develops policies, procedures, and guidelines through which requests for prior learning credit are reviewed internally.
Adheres to all PLA policies and procedures necessary for compliance with external standards as set by accrediting and licensing organizations, state and federal agencies, and other regulatory entities.
Reviews and organizes existing procedures, develops and maintains content for a PLA website, collects data, establishes benchmarks, writes reports, and provides recommendations through the leadership of Rowan Global.
Evaluates documents (college/military transcripts, standardized assessments, documentation of experiential learning and professional certifications) and makes recommendations about awarding course credit as appropriate.
Provides counseling to students, tracks progress, and follows a paper trail to help students complete documentation requirements when registering for courses, applying for credit and planning to graduate.
Negotiates with external agencies for portfolio evaluation services as needed.
Conducts ongoing monitoring and evaluation of registration and PLA activities to ensure quality services to students, academic integrity of the process, and compliance with guidelines of external organizations that certify the College's accreditation.
Advises students on methods of fulfilling degree requirements using PLA credits, which may include the development of portfolios.
Provide leadership and develop appropriate recommendations for the implementation of related technology application in support of enhanced services offered through Registration, Records and PLA.
Participate in professional development activities and serve on university committees that support the goals and objectives of the Division.
Master?s degree in Education, Counseling, Higher Education, or other applicable field.
Minimum of 5 years experience working in an educational setting or university demonstrating advisement and higher education experience.
Skill in exceptional organizational and time management with demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, prioritize and effectively execute multiple initiatives, programs, and events and meet established deadlines.
Skill in strong interpersonal communications; demonstrated ability to establish and develop productive and collegial relationships, collaboration, and communication with on campus constituencies and building effective teams as needed.
Ability to analyze and manage large amounts of data, documents, and official transcripts.
Thorough knowledge of registration, records, transfer evaluation, adult learning, adult development and various approaches and issues related to registration and prior learning assessment.
Understanding of the various methods by which credit may be granted for prior learning.
Ability to consider the impact of policies and procedures on students, faculty and administration.
Expertise with MS Office Suite applications, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and capable of learning internal administrative databases and software systems.
Sensitivity to the backgrounds and learning needs of diverse learners and families; demonstrated commitment to student service and advocacy.
Ability to establish strong collegial relationships in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment so as to work well with various constituents, faculty and staff.
Ability to participate in evening and weekend commitments as necessary.
Experience with strategic enrollment management and with curricular issues.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under tight deadlines with shifting priorities.
Superior attention to detail and experience with data collection, reporting, management and evaluation.
Proficiency in Banner, COGNOS and electronic management systems.
