The Inclusive Excellence Instruction Specialist provides leadership to faculty, departments, colleges, and the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology (CTLT) staff to support instructional improvements to achieve campus diversity and inclusivity goals. Cal Poly is committed to the inclusive excellence model and to meeting diversity learning objectives across the curriculum. This position reports to the Director of the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology.
This position provides expertise and scholarship-informed guidance in efforts to strengthen and enhance inclusivity and diversity related issues in teaching and learning, including the co-curriculum. The Inclusive Excellence Instruction Specialist works with faculty from across the campus and draws from best practices to determine methods to help faculty assess their progress in teaching and supporting student learning. To do so, the individual in this position will assist colleges, departments, and individual faculty members with aspects of diversity and inclusivity in their disciplines. The Inclusive Excellence Instruction Specialist collaborates with units and individuals involved with campus diversity initiatives. The individual also collaborates with peers throughout the CSU and around higher education to identify methods for improving effectiveness in support of diversity and inclusivity.

Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):
Five (5) years full-time (or equivalent) teaching at the university level
PhD or terminal degree from an accredited university in an academic discipline.
Experience or demonstrated interest in faculty development through involvement in mentoring, consultations, and workshops.
Knowledge of principles and practices supporting inclusivity and diversity.
Demonstrated interest in and enthusiasm for inclusive excellence.
Demonstrated interest in learning about other disciplines and issues pertaining to inclusivity-and diversity-related issues.
Knowledge about effective use of technologies in instruction.
Ability to work collaboratively, collegially, and productively with faculty and colleagues across disciplines.
Strong commitment to shared governance.
Superior interpersonal and written/oral skills in communicating with campus and external constituents.
Ability to represent the university effectively.
Integrity, transparency in decision-making, and a creative problem-solving spirit.
Demonstrated experience implementing processes that span functional or organizational areas.
Experience giving presentations and training.
Strong decision-making skills and ability to work under pressure.
Clear and accurate understanding of best practices, policies, and procedures regarding accessibility, FERPA, and information security and how to help faculty implement specific steps so that their instructional materials and practices comply with campus policies and legal requirements.
A record of infusing curriculum with relevant inclusivity and diversity related issues to enhance student learning.
A broad interdisciplinary background or experience.

Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
Must be able to work overtime, occasional holidays, and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
This position is a "designated position" in the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.
Full-time MPP employees are required to disclose outside employment at time of hire or within 30 days of taking additional outside employment subsequent to time of hire.
This position classification has been defined as "Exempt" and is not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Retired CalPERS members selected for this vacancy must request and be approved for reinstatement from retirement prior to the start date. Employment of retired CalPERS members will typically be for 90 days or less and must be for work requiring specialized skills or for a bona fide emergency to prevent stoppage of business.
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
