ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING - The Civil & Environmental Engineering Department within the College of Engineering at Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo, CA invites applications for a full-time, academic year, tenure-track faculty appointment in the area of transportation engineering with special emphasis on sustainable transportation systems at a rank and salary commensurate with the applicant's background and experience. The anticipated start date is September 7, 2017. Candidates with industry experience are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: (a) teaching undergraduate classes and laboratories in civil engineering in general, and transportation engineering in particular, as well as graduate courses in area of specialization; (b) supervising undergraduate and graduate-level research; (c) developing and maintaining externally-funded research programs; (d) engaging in activities related to service in the form of student club advisement, curriculum development, and shared governance.
Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):
An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Civil Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution or international equivalent is required for appointment. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) will be considered, but must provide proof that the doctorate was completed prior to the start of the appointment.
Candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and laboratory-based instruction, and exhibit potential for professional recognition via research and publication. The department seeks candidates who have an interdisciplinary mindset and who work well in a highly collaborative environment. Demonstrated ability in written and oral use of the English language is required. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to diversity.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in transportation planning/engineering, supported by a record of scholarly publications (commensurate with time since degree). Professional registration, LEED certification, and industry/consulting experience are desirable.
A commitment to innovation in undergraduate teaching and working in a multidisciplinary and collaborative setting is preferred.
