Budget Title: Lead Programmer/Analyst (SL-3)
Salary: $25,000 - $30,000 (part-time, 50%)
The Center for Energy-Smart Electronic Systems (ES2), a National Science Foundation Industry/University Cooperative Research Center (I/UCRS), works in partnership with government, industry and academia to develop systematic methodologies for efficiently operating electronic systems, including data centers, by controlling resources and managing workloads to achieve optimal energy consumption. This position is part of a SUNY wide team initiative (SUNY2020) to increase student enrollment and focuses on Smart Energy. This position, available immediately, will report to both co-Director & Professor, Kanad Ghose and to co-Director and SUNY Distinguished Professor, Bahgat Sammakia. This position will closely interact with the NorthEast Center for Chemical Energy Storage and the Center for Learning and Teaching on campus, who are a part of the SUNY2020 Smart Energy Team.
The position will be responsible for:
1) Administration of Energy-Smart Electronic Systems:
This position will be responsible for the administration of:
Linux servers and Cisco networking equipment
This position will be responsible for the administration and configuration of:
DC-power delivery systems and servers including: hybrid AC-DC powered systems, DC-powered server system and embedded controllers for liquid and air-cooling
2) Research on Smart Energy Systems:
This position will be responsible for:
Assisting users in research and testing on Smart Energy devices for BU faculty and students, as well as outside users
Script writing skills for automating data center processes.
Pushing the frontiers of Smart Energy science and technology forward
Presenting and reporting research results, preparing invention disclosures, and publishing scientific results in peer-reviewed journals in a timely manner
Generating business from outside users; working with academia, industry, and national labs
There will also be opportunities for independent research, and for enlarging the research effort through external funding. Research will include collaboration with BU and other faculty, as well as with companies
Responsible for training all users on the proper use of the ES2 equipment and ensuring that all users have taken proper training before entering ES2
This position will assist the Instructional Post-Doctoral Associate from the Center for Learning & Teaching on the creation of course and training modules for undergraduate, MS and PhD students SUNY-wide. This position will also take a lead in continuing education for workforce members in the Smart Electronics area
Bachelor's in Science required
PhD in computer science or related field preferred with significant expertise in the computer architecture, power-aware systems and microarchitecture, systems software, high-performance computing and cyber-physical systems
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and the personal skills to work as part of a team and to interact effectively with external units
