Title: Benefits SpecialistDepartment: Human ResourcesCampus: QueensReports to: Benefits ManagerJob Summary:The benefits specialist is responsible for assisting with the administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including group health, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, worker's compensation, life insurance, travel and accident plan, flexible spending plan, 403(b) plan and processing for the 457 plan.Responsibilities: Document and maintain administrative procedures for assigned benefits processes. Ensure compliance with applicable government regulations. Ensure timeliness and accuracy of required reporting and fees. Handle enrollments, COBRA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, accident and death claims, rollovers, QDROs, QMCSOs, distributions, loans, hardships and compliance testing. Update employee payroll records. Process monthly billings and the process payment of administrative fees for designated benefits. Audit the accuracy of information in the HRIS and BSWIFT systems. Provide customer service support to internal and external customers. Design and distribute materials for benefits orientations, open enrollment and summary plan descriptions. Assist employees regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes. Distribute all benefits enrollment materials and determine eligibility. Enroll employees with carriers and process life status changes. Respond to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries. Process and administer leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA. Effectively interpret FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities. Respond to 403(b) inquiries from managers and employees relating to enrollments, plan changes, contribution amounts, loans and withdrawals. Analyze 403(b) contributions per pay period. Administer the Tuition Exchange Program. Provides necessary reports for allocation/billing charges. Performs other duties as assigned.Qualifications: Associates degree, Bachelor's preferred or related experience Three years' experience with a minimum of two years in customer service, HR and/or benefits administration.
