Advertised Summary Job Description: This position is located on the Lamont Campus in Rockland County, NY.
Responsible for optimizing facilities operations through the application of engineering principles, overseeing capital projects, compilation of key performance metrics, and preparation of reports.
By application of engineering principles select replacement and upgrades for critical plant machinery and infrastructure, such as fans, chillers, generators, pumps, boilers, etc., to ensure equipment is right sized for the application, and optimized for life cycle costs and sustainability. Engineer must be willing to develop scope of knowledge of engineering as broad as the scope of responsibilities needed to maintain and improve the campus, including mechanical, electrical, civil, and architectural systems.
Oversee capital projects and programs, employing consultants, vendors, and in-house staff, to ensure timely and quality outcomes. Scope of responsibility includes design, scoping, budgeting, scheduling, and providing progress reports to various constituencies, including end users, management, and project sponsors.
Integral within Facilities Operations, the Engineer must be cognizant of operational difficulties requiring innovation to improve productivity, such as implementing new automation with attendant alarms and remote annunciation to minimize inspection rounds, providing cost effective preventative maintenance scheduling, identifying systems that should be replaced rather than repaired (or vice versa), implementing labor saving procedures and cost saving service contracts. The Engineer is also responsible for increasing the technical knowledge of all members of the operations staff through ad hoc training to help them understand the implications of basic engineering principles that will enhance their performance.
Audit energy use, identify opportunities, and implement sustainable projects such as solar, geothermal, combined heat and power, recommissioning, efficiency retrofits, load shedding, and demand reduction to reduce utility costs and environmental impacts. Pursue financial incentives offered through government, manufacturers, utilities, and private sponsors.
Track critical performance data such as costs, labor, quantities consumed, service requests, response times, repair intervals, etc., and create reports and dashboards to inform various constituencies, such as management, employees, and visitors.
Receives general direction from the Assistant Director, Facilities and Engineering. Works independently on all key aspects of the job.
Minimal responsibility for budget and assets. Obtains quotations for purchase order requests for equipment, supplies, materials and services.
General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering and minimum of 4 - 6 years experience in directly related work required.
