Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Business Specialist for the Human Genetics Institute of New Jersey (HGINJ). This position reports to the business manager supervisor (MPSC- GRADE6), this position provides professional accounting, financial analysis and budgeting support for assigned accounts for the Department of Genetics, The Human Genetics Institute, The Human Genetics Institute – RUCDR. Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Responsible for the day to day financial management of assigned sponsored awards – determining allowability and allocability of expenses, determination of appropriate expenditure levels to prevent cost overruns and providing projections and analyses as needed.
Oversees and approves all procurement expenditures.
Works closely with University offices to maintain accurate financial and award records.
Analyzes and reconciles award data to University and departmental systems.
Prepares financial documents and other required documentation within deadlines established.
Responsible for the day to day financial management of other funds received for assigned faculty members.
Responsible for preparing the required analyses, schedules, forms and other documentation of all assigned award closeouts to meet agency deadlines in accordance with governing policies, procedures and government guidelines.
Monitors any outstanding items/issues on closed accounts and takes required action to resolve.
Responsible for supporting Faculty in all aspects of sponsored program proposal preparation and submission, including budget preparation and internal and external forms preparation and submission.
Prepares electronic as well as paper submission forms for Federal and State proposals as well as required forms for foundations and fellowships.
Stays abreast of changes in federal/state grants, contracts and federal, state & RU policies and procedures.
Exhibits good work ethic and maintains a good working relationship with PIs and staff members, and acts as liaison between staff at DLS, ORSP, the RU Foundation and with other institutions, as needed.
Serves as backup to part-time business specialist who handles payroll and accounting matters during critical deadlines or to ensure the timely appointment of personnel.
Designs and implements databases, spreadsheets, macros, etc to monitor, control and report revenues and expenditures of awards so as to meet the needs of the funding agency, University and unit.
Keeps abreast of governing policies, procedures and requirements.
Attends annual required professional development courses and achieve University's Business/Accounting Certificate.
