Purpose of Role:
The Vice President, Consulting is responsible for account and business management of a portfolio of clients and research projects. Reporting to the Executive Vice President for Social Science research, this role is responsible for developing relationships with clients, understanding their needs and objectives, and then designing and delivering successful research.
This role requires a focus on client satisfaction, relationship management, and delivering exceptional insight and consulting. You will work in partnership with clients and their teams to identify client issues, expectations, and requirements and balance them against budget, time, and delivery constraints.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Builds and maintains strong client relationships, inspiring confidence in our clients that GfK provides premium fact-based consultation. Balances needs of client with what is best for the company. Identifies clients’ requirements and expectations. Communicates and consults regularly with clients about their projects.
Revenue Generation – Responsible for identifying and developing business opportunities with new and existing clients.
Maintains overall responsibility for work sold and ultimately, for client satisfaction.
Supports project execution through progress reviews, client contacts, and creative problem-solving.
Identifies situations where collaboration with clients can result in publishable articles and presentations at professional conferences. Research writing skills and experience expected.
Leads/participates in cross-company initiatives – change management, new analytical tools, new data tool integration, etc.
Responsible for staff performance and management including resource allocation, project oversight, coaching, performance management, development planning, and training.
Experience, Skills, and Education:
Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience within the Survey Research industry (5+ years of experience as a project manager and 5+ years of experience managing staff)
10+ years research experience in research specializing in survey design and execution, sample specification, needs analysis, questionnaire development
5+ years’ experience in an account management role
Industry experience in one or more major sectors: health, energy, environment, defense, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, housing, transportation, etc.
Broad level of experience in dealing with clients, complex projects and research studies
Demonstrated ability in converting client desires and requirements into operational plans for data collection
Proven ability in delivering new business in a consultative environment
Demonstrated ability in project management and business writing, with an overall “big picture” understanding of the issues and business in general; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Demonstrated experience publishing research reports and delivering research presentations; public speaking experience
Excellent client service orientation: great social poise and persuasive communication skills to work effectively with different personalities plus the drive to deliver high-quality results to wow clients and earn their respect and recognition
Strong collaborative spirit and behavior. Interfaces well with others and in a team setting. Works toward team goals and participates actively and supportively in team decisions.
Methodological experience expected in various survey research techniques with recent experience in current technological applications and advances.
Familiarity with and ability to advise clients on the various options for research design, including issues such as sampling, mode effect, statistical significance, etc.
Ability to prepare project budgets that are realistic, competitive, and based on project specifications that have been clearly outlined and properly bid by operations.
Ability to manage client expectations about budgets, project timing, sampling, and outcomes.
Well-versed in MS office applications (particularly PowerPoint, Word, and Excel)
MA or MS in social sciences, statistics, or related field. PhD a plus.
