The Dean of Student Financial Services provides leadership and oversight for all functions of Student Financial Services, including financial aid strategy, financial aid awarding and disbursement, federal and state compliance, fee assessment, billing, collections, loan approvals (federal and private), student employment, veteran and servicemember benefits processing, and student financial literacy services. Student Financial Services is comprised of financial aid (scholarships, grants, and loans), student accounts, student employment, student financial literacy and veteran benefit services; it serves all student populations including undergraduate, graduate and law.
The Dean-Student Financial Services directs and manages the organizational, budgetary, policy, technological systems, and personnel requirements and activities of the unit. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management, and in collaboration with the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the Senior Vice President and CEO of the Professional Advancement Network, and the Enrollment Strategy Team, the Dean-Student Financial Services develops the institutional strategy for pricing and student financial aid. He/she implements the strategy to optimize use of institutional funds to enroll the desired number and profile of students and to retain current students. The Dean-Student Financial Services oversees the administration of government funds in accordance with federal and state regulations. He/she advises senior Northeastern University leadership on the impact of proposed state and federal legislation and recommends institutional response. He/she manages and maintains fee assessment, billing and collection on student accounts and works with budget and research staff across the University on revenue models and reporting.
The Dean-Student Financial Services sets a standard in defining and assuring a service culture across Student Financial Services. Working with the Student Financial Services leadership team, the Dean-Student Financial Services designs, implements and assesses an industry leading array of financial services programs that support institutional recruitment and retention goals. The Dean-Student Financial Services, working with the Director of Student Financial Literacy, provides leadership for Northeastern's unique student-led Center for Financial independence.
The Dean-Student Financial Servicesmaintains a national presence in financial aid and business office associations to enhance Northeastern University's stature. Working collaboratively with colleagues across the University, and serving as a senior member of the Enrollment Management division, the Dean-Student Financial Services works to advance both near and long-term institutional goals.
Eight to ten years of progressively responsible leadership experience in administration of financial aid programs and/or student services; including accounts receivables. Proven track record of successful strategic planning, excellent operational and systems management, effective supervisory practice and innovative approaches to optimizing resources to meet institutional goals and a standard of excellence of service delivery. Extensive knowledge of federal regulations and requirements for compliance, experience with complex, institutional awarding strategies and expertise with state/federal funding processes. An understanding of econometric modeling and other relevant statistical tools. A proven understanding of the dynamics of a complex and culturally diverse university community. Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills as well as demonstrated creative and analytical abilities. A bachelors degree required, masters or MBA preferred.
