UW Medical Center has an outstanding opportunity for a Lead, Hospital Central Services Technician. This position will oversee all activities of the Instrument Room, its functions, operations and services which includes decontamination, cart washer, SIPS, sterilization of reusable items and equipment. Receiving direction from the Processing Supervisors and Manager, the Hospital Central Services Technician Lead serves as a positive role model to facilitate and improve department performance and activities, demonstrates good communication skills, cooperates and communicates effectively with peers, supervisors and the manager. The Lead creates an efficient and team-oriented culture within the department and will act as a liaison, providing excellent customer service between the Operating Room and the Instrument Room. Lead Technician and all staff members are required to perform and verify correct sterilization method as part of their job responsibilities.
With delegated authority, conduct training, assign and schedule work.
Plan, organize and direct the instrument room staff in the areas of decontamination, cart washer, assembly and sterilization of reusable items, equipment, surgical instrumentation and power equipment.
Communicate departmental issues and concerns to management and help establish resolutions in a timely manner.
Identify gaps and/opportunities to facilitate effective communication improvements.
Facilitate and actively participate in problem solving efforts to maintain the effective work flow of department services.
Actively identify and facilitate department improvement opportunities.
Assist in the development and implementation of Policy and Procedures for departmental operations.
Insure departmental Policy and Procedures are followed.
Identify instrument shortages.
Track activities on a daily shift report.
Participate in quality audits, identifying training and improvement opportunities for staff.
Monitor all sterilizers/washer decontaminators to ensure they are functioning properly.
Contact manufacture customer support if there is an issue/problem with sterilizers/washer decontaminators.
Conduct daily quality assurance/biological testing check all sterilizers and washer decontaminators.
Assist with maintenance and organization of inventory records.
Perform other related duties and special projects as directed.
High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience performing the work of a Hospital Central Services Technician II
International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) Certification preferred.
