Job Summary: At the direction of the Director of Security Operations, the Field Supervisor will patrol the campus buildings and grounds on foot, on a bicycle, and/or in a patrol vehicle while supervising the officers in the field. The hours for this position are based on an altered work schedule (weekends, non-standard hours, holidays, special events) and require the availability to respond at any time requested, 24 hours a day.
Responsible for direct supervision and training of Security Officers during duty shifts.
Be able to assume specific duties of each officer as needed.
Assists with scheduling the Security Officers assigned to the shift. Authorizes and controls overtime costs on the officers' assigned shifts for regular and emergency deployment. Authorizes vacation and sick leave as approved by the Deputy Chief of Security.
Assists with screening and hiring of full-time Security Officers. Monitors and evaluates Officers' performance and counsels or disciplines upon consultation with and the approval of the Deputy Chief of Security.
Responsible for Security Officer training and development programs pertaining to the shift as it relates to the Department and Institute's policies, procedures and culture.
Participates in the writing, development, and implementation of Institute and Departmental policies and procedures related to security services.
Provides input to the Deputy Chief of Security Services for the development of the Department's budget. Provides input as requested to assist in the identification and development of goals and objectives to improve service to the Institute.
Provides input and justification to the Deputy Chief of Security Services to assist in determining the need for the purchase of new equipment.
Conducts routine investigations of crimes and incidents on the campus. Interfaces with local law enforcement agencies as needed. Compiles necessary records and documents as required by the Institute and the Department of Education. Responsible for documenting and reviewing written incident reports and other security related issues.
Provide general patrol of the campus, ensuring the safety and security of members of the Institute community, visitors and guests of the Institute and the property of the Institute while supervising field officers on duty.
Maintains current knowledge and understanding of Department and Institute policies and procedures, and adheres to all applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations. Ensures and monitors compliance by the officers at the shift level.
Represents the Institute as appropriate in its relationships with the community, government agencies, visitors, and guests.
Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Effectively deal with law enforcement and all members of the Institute community, its visitors and guests in a manner that is courteous, respectful, helpful and friendly in order to maintain an atmosphere of professionalism for the security operation
Perform administrative tasks as needed.
The selected candidate must pass a pre-employment background investigation and post-offer physical examination to be hired for this position.
Must be able to lift 30 pounds on a regular basis and up to 100 pounds of security barriers and poles on an as needed basis.
Must maintain a valid California driver's license throughout the course of employment.
Must be a High School graduate or hold a GED equivalency certificate.
Minimum one-year experience as a Security Supervisor with demonstrated progressive responsibility.
Must be eligible for a Department of Defense clearance to the level of SECRET.
Must have achieved a minimum of a PC 832 certificate within 6 months of appointment.
Must have, or obtain within 30 days of assignment, a Red Cross First Responder/EMT Certification.
Must have, or obtain within 30 days of assignment, a CPR Certification.
Must maintain current all required certifications during the course of employment. Must have a good driving record.
Must be available to work varied shifts.
Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Proven experience in making responsible decisions in both emergency and non-emergency situations on behalf of the Department and the Institute in order to protect the image and interests of the Institute.
Must have the ability to operate in a confidential manner concerning Institute matters.
Must maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times while in the performance of work at the Institute.
Must have basic typing/computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, MS Word and Excel.
Undergraduate coursework or degree preferred.
Experience in a college or university environment preferred
