<p>The Department of Political Sceince in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota occasionally needs Senior Lecturers to teach courses that cannot be staffed by regular faculty or graduate student instructors. These positions are temporary and part-time. This search will establish a "pool" of potential instructors for academic year 2017/18. Applicants will be selected from this pool on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. </p><p> </p><p><strong><u>Essential Duties / Responsibilities</u></strong>:</p><ul><li>Conduct assigned courses <em>(primarily undergraduate courses; graduate seminars as needed, and conditional upon qualifications)</em></li><li>Prepare course materials and exams</li><li>Hold office hours</li><li>Coordinate and mentor Teaching Assistants (TAs), when applicable to assigned course(s)</li><li>Respond to student and departmental inquiries</li><li>Submit grades and grade books</li><li>Submit student evaluations of teaching</li><li>Engage in curricular innovation (such as redesign of significant aspects of curriculum, introduction of new course sequences, or implementation of / refinement in use of new instructional technologies)</li><li>Engage in professional development activities</li><li>Engage in outreach activities and liaison work beyond the department (such as community outreach, conference organization, or on-site reviews of study abroad programs)</li></ul><p> </p><p><strong><u>Non-Essential Duties / Responsibilities</u></strong>:</p><ul><li>Provide administrative support relating to teaching duties and course responsibilities as appropriate and requested</li><li>Serve as a member of departmental committees as appropriate and requested, and accept appointments to ad hoc committees and/or extra-departmental committees</li><li>Serve as course / program coordinator, or fulfill a similar function within the department, when included as part of the appointment</li><li>Participate in program development and governance as appropriate and requested</li><li>Seek and obtain appropriate funding from internal and external sources for the development of materials for the program as appropriate</li></ul><p> </p><p>The Department of Political Science reserves the right to change and/or assign other duties to this position(s). </p>
<p><strong>Minimum Qualifications</strong>:</p><ul style="list-style-type:circle;"><li>Ph.D. in Political Science, or closely related field</li><li>Five years or more of teaching experience in a college or university</li><li>At least two years of administrative experience, when required as part of the appointment</li><li>Must have sucessfully completed the Department of Political Science / College of Liberal Arts promotion process to Senior Lecturer, before applying</li></ul><p> </p><p><strong>Preferred Qualifications</strong>:</p><ul style="list-style-type:circle;"><li>Broad expertise in Political Science sub-fields</li><li>Commitment to deliver high-quality instruction to a diverse student body</li><li>Extensive experience working with undergraduate students</li><li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills</li><li>Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge of and/or experience in the University of Minnesota teaching methodology. </li></ul>
