The Department of Health Policy and Management at the University of Pittsburgh seeks a senior faculty member at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor to assume the role of Vice Chair for Education and Program Director of our CAHME-accredited MHA program.
The Department of Health Policy and Management has multiple graduate programs including a MHA, a MPH, and MS and PhD in Health Service Research and Policy, and at any given time we have approximately 80 students actively enrolled across these programs. We also offer two joint degrees, an established JD/MPH program and a recently approved MBA/MHA degree in collaboration with Katz School of Business. Our fully CAHME Accredited MHA program, is one of the oldest in the US and has produced over 1500 alumni over the last 60 years. These graduates serve in senior management and leadership positions across the US and globally. All degree programs are based on a competency model specifically tailored to the educational mission.
The department has an active and diverse faculty with expertise in the fields of health policy, health economics, health and public health law, organizational behavior, computer science and decision sciences. The department has nearly $10 million in external research, with multiple grants evaluating Medicare and Medicaid programs, pharmaceutical benefits, long term care, cost effectiveness and mathematical modeling of infectious diseases. We have a large group of adjunct faculty who are senior administrators at several large regional health care systems as well as county and state government agencies. The primary responsibilities for this position are to maintain and advance the high quality educational programs that we have developed in the department. The successful incumbent will be expected to teach, mentor students, direct the MHA and joint MBA/MBA programs, and provide leadership for the full portfolio of educational programs.
The successful candidate can be appointed in the Public Health Educator, Public Health Practice or Research track, either inside or outside the tenure stream, depending on their qualification and experience. The Public Health Educator Track is for faculty who concentrate on teaching and building academic programs. The Public Health Practice track is for faculty whose experience and expertise derives from extensive work in health care or public health agencies, and the Research track is for faculty who spend a large portion of their time conducting externally funded research.
