The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Pittsburgh (http://www.engineering.pitt.edu/ece) anticipates interviewing candidates for a non-tenure stream (NTS) research position at the assistant professor level. The anticipated start date is September 2016. The duties and responsibilities to the ECE Department will primarily be to support the growth and expansion of the research programs associated with the Electric Power Initiative, as well as related activities in the Center for Energy, under the direction of Professor Gregory Reed. This will include contributions to continued collaborative efforts with new and existing industry partnerships, government funding organizations, and other research program constituents. Duties will include, but nor be limited to, participation in proposal development toward funded opportunities from government entities, industry, and regional foundations that will enhance existing and/or planned research programs and laboratory facilities ( including activities associated with the on-campus Electric Power System Lab in Benedum Hall and the planning/implementation efforts for the off-campus Electric Power Technologies Lab at the Energy Innovation Center); implementation of funded research projects; support of graduate student researchers; and related programmatic activities. In addition, recognizing that research quality is a very important factor that the School and our Department take very seriously, we will expect performance towards publishing scholarly articles in high impact factor journals, as well as contributing to and presenting at high quality conferences. Participation in outreach programs and volunteering in professional societies (such as IEEE, the National Academies, etc.) locally and nationally is also expected. ECE currently has 25 full time faculty members with approximately 440 undergraduate and 170 graduate students. The department offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering. ECE is strongly committed to a diverse academic environment and places high priority on attracting female and minority candidates.
