Primary Duties: The VPAP serves as the Provost's chief advisor and leads: academic programs, assessment, and accreditation; student retention, success, and graduation; and supports the University's mission and commitment to excellence in serving students. The VPAP is the Provost's representative - providing vision and direction - in all academic matters related to: curriculum and pedagogy; academic planning; California State University (CSU) system compliance and initiatives; program reviews; and program-specific accreditations and certifications. The VPAP works closely with college deans and shared governance processes on campus (e.g., Academic Senate) in the oversight of curricular and pedagogical matters affecting student success. As a transformative leader committed to serving the people of California by recognizing diversity and inclusion as an institutional priority for the University, the VPAP will envision and implement improved processes and innovative projects within a complex system that reflect the values of Chico State while moving the University towards being the best it can be.
The VPAP provides leadership to the Office of Graduate Studies, Institutional Research, Office of International Education, Office of Undergraduate Education, the Institute for Sustainable Development, Curriculum Services, and Faculty Development. The VPAP provides management and leadership relative to initiatives and special projects, and performs other duties as assigned by the Provost.
An earned doctorate or other terminal degree in an appropriate discipline sufficient to warrant an academic appointment at the rank of a full professor.
A minimum of five years of experience with academic administrative leadership.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability and willingness to share information with diverse audiences.
Demonstrated ability to be an effective team member of a management team.
Demonstrated commitment to the principles of shared governance and transparency.
The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in the applicable CSU Executive Order as a condition of employment.
This position is a Higher Education Employer-Employee Relations Act (HEERA) designated managerial position and comes under the Management Personnel Plan (MPP) of the California State University. Individuals appointed to management positions serve at the pleasure of the President or designee. They are excluded from the collective bargaining process, are not subject to probationary service, and do not receive tenure or permanent status. This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
The duties of this position will include participation in a decision that may have a material/financial benefit to the incumbent. Therefore, this is a designated position under the California State Universitys Conflict of Interest Code and the incumbent will be required to file a Form 700: Statement of Economic Interest and is subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.
Throughout employment in this position incumbent must maintain a valid California Drivers License as well as continued completion and compliance of the CSU Defensive Drivers Training course.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position. This considered a sensitive position. This position is considered a sensitive position based on CSU guidelines. Incumbent is responsible for the safety and security of Level 1 data, sometimes also referred to as Level 1 protected data. This is confidential information that is in most cases protected by statutes, regulations, or other legal mandates.
PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS: Incumbent will need to be able to perform the essential job functions (duties) of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. This position alternates between remaining in a stationary position operating a personal computer for long periods of time and frequently moving about inside the office. Must be able to travel across campus to other offices and buildings for meetings and events.
WORKENVIRONMENT: This position involves frequent to constant interaction with students, parents, guests, faculty and staff. The office is a typical office environment with standard office equipment. This is a fast-paced environment requiring a flexible schedule. Early morning, evening or weekend hours may be required, as needed, including occasional travel.
