Provide Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety Services. To assist in developing and executing a program for controlling and reducing hazards, to perform occupational sampling, to provide worker training, to conduct inspections, to respond to employee complaints, to respond to emergencies and help to resolve them, to maintain asbestos program, to conduct asbestos surveys and to maintain safety equipment at Einstein.
Provide worker training in Hazard Communication, Bloodborne Pathogen, Fire Safety, Asbestos Awareness, Emergency Response and General Safety.
Develop safety training programs for workers, students and faculty.
Evaluate the workplace for hazards including, but not limited to: laboratories, office space, mechanical rooms, renovation and constructions sites and grounds. This responsibility extends to investigating accidents and injuries. All evaluations must be followed by corrective actions.
Assist with administering the Asbestos Program. Take bulk samples, evaluate outside contractors and coordinate internal Asbestos Program.
Train and interact with employees who have concerns about asbestos. Ensure that all asbestos work is compliant with the regulations.
Administer the General Contractor Safety Program for Einstein ensuring that vendors performing work at the College are doing so in a safe and compliant manner.
Monitor all workplace environments.
Conduct surveys using technical instruments to obtain quantitative data.
Determine if a hazardous condition exists and develop a strategy to reduce or eliminate exposure.
Interact with outside agencies and contractors.
Interact with the Fire Department, DEP, and DEC to stay in compliance with Federal, State, and local laws.
Interact with outside contractors to handle specialized projects such as asbestos, clinical, waste management, training and instruments.
Respond to complaints/emergencies. Evaluate worker complaints relating to hazardous conditions in their work environment.
Respond to emergencies such as spill response or other hazardous conditions and assist with their resolution.
Maintain records and reporting to government agencies. Keep all records of worker and environmental monitoring, training, inspections, accident/injury investigations, complaints and emergencies.
