Assistant/Associate/Full Professional Researcher
The Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences seeks individuals with strong understanding of research development who can help provide the leadership required to implement innovative research programs in collaboration to advance health worldwide. The ultimate goal of the position is to ensure better health through better therapeutics. Specific responsibilities include leadership and development of specific therapeutics for various diseases. This position will provide research faculty with the breadth of senior management collaboration and ideation needed to advance the research agenda on many fronts simultaneously.
One slot of this multi?slot recruitment will be a part?time position for a scientist to perform therapeutic development in particular in the area of gene regulation. The Assistant/Associate/Full Professional Researcher is accountable for promoting and establishing new research ideas relevant to therapeutic research and the use of gene regulatory elements as therapeutic targets as well as to conduct research, manage projects and analyze results. The Assistant/Associate/Full Professional Researcher plays a role in formulating research goals and for translating these goals into research grants, such as NIH, NSF, foundation grants and other funding opportunities. The Associate Professional Researcher role is to interact closely with faculty members and staff at UCSF and to promote collaborative research between the Ahituv laboratory and other faculty members. In addition, this individual plays a key role in large national and international collaborative research projects. The Assistant/Associate/Full Professional Researcher is required to provide guidance to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the Ahituv laboratory in their laboratory?based projects or in data analysis.
Required Qualifications: • PhD in related biomedical field (by hire date). • At least 3 years of postdoc training. • Specific to the Ahituv lab opportunity, candidate must have at least 4 years of functional genomics and gene regulation work; sequencing studies and various functional assays, in vitro and/or in vivo, to characterize functional variants; 2 years of experience in therapeutics, including a range of in vitro assays using mammalian cells and in vivo assays using mice. • The Assistant/Associate/Full Professional Researcher must have a commensurate publication level. • The candidate must have at least 3 years of experience in training and supervising scientists in the laboratory setting.
Additional Preferred Qualifications: • PhD preferably in genetics, genomics, bioengineering, bioinformatics. • Strong understanding of the gene regulation, human genetic disease, genomics and therapeutics are preferred. • Experience working with government agencies or other national health and science?related agencies preferred. • Advanced communication and presentation experience preferred. • Experience with grant awards, scholarly publications and international projects preferred.
