Position Title: Temporary Exempt Junior Counselor Supervisor: Assistant Director
I. Summary: The mission of Hidden Valley 4-H Camp is to provide youth with a fun, residential camp experience under the guidance of positive role models that emphasize community building, positive social interactions, environmental awareness and skill building. The Junior Counselor's role is to assist the counselors in supervising the campers and provide assistance in the kitchen during meals and/or with the Cloverbuds Day Camp.
II. Duration The summer camp season includes 1 week of pre-camp Staff Training starting on July 1, 2018 and 6 weeks of residential camp that run from Sunday morning to Friday evening each week. Specific dates camp is open are July8– August 17, 2018. Additional weekend coverage will be required during 2 or the 3 stay over weekends in July and August. The Junior Counselor will remain on camp until August 29, 2018 to assist Camp Director and staff in the cleaning and closing of the camp facility.
III. Specific Responsibilities - 100%
Assists Cabin Counselor in responsibility for leadership and guidance of those campers in daily living, with special attention to: personal hygiene and safety, camper participation in all-camp activities, and meal time behavior and habits
Participates in all activities with their groups, making camp fun for their campers, teaching skills, providing encouragement and support.
Assigned to kitchen help on a daily basis to assist Head Chef in Meal Preparation and Kitchen duties
Assume responsibility for interpreting the rules, policies, and traditions of the camp to the camper
Ability to flexible and realize that needs of campers are foremost.
Serve as a positive role model in language, appearance, and behavior
Assume responsibility for health and welfare of campers in his/her bunk
16 - 17 years of age
CIT program participation with recommendation from CIT Leader
Experience as a camper and working with children
Lifeguard Certification given extra consideration
Ability to work with peers
Incorporates Team Work and Flexibility into their daily work style
