Position Title: Temporary Exempt Science Specialist Supervisor: Assistant Director
I.Summary The mission of Hidden Valley 4-H Camp is to provide youth with a fun, residential camp experience under the guidance of positive role models that emphasize community building, positive social interactions, environmental awareness and skill building. The Science Specialist is responsible for the planning and leading of science, animal science and rocketry programs and ordering and inventory of program supplies. The Science Specialist will also serve as a cabin counselor.
II. Duration The summer camp season includes 1 Specialist week beginning June 25, 2018, 1 week of Pre-camp training and 6 weeks of residential camp that run from Sunday morning to Friday evening each week. Specific dates camp is open are July 8 - August 17, 2018. Additional weekend coverage will be required for 2 of 3 extended weekends. The Science Specialist will remain on camp until August 19, 2018 to assist Camp Director and staff in the cleaning and closing of the camp facility.
III. Specific Responsibilities - 100%
Develop and implement meaningful Science programming geared to all ages, interests, and abilities based on the 4-H model for positive youth development
Supervise campers at all science and rocketry programming
Plan and oversee animal science programs and maintain camp animals, including ducks, chickens and sheep
Order and keep inventory of program supplies and maintain department budget
Oversee other staff members helping at all science and rocketry programming
Serve as a positive role model in language, appearance, and behavior
Participate and provide leadership in all camp programs
Support and embrace diversity in all interactions with campers, other staff members, volunteers and parents. Implement programs that engage diverse backgrounds, interests and learning styles.
Other duties may be assigned as required
18 years of age or older
Experience working with and maintaining farm animals
Coursework in and demonstrated understanding of physical and life sciences
Knowledge and experience in Rocketry
Ability to communicate effectively with Camp Director, entire camp staff, campers and camp families
Incorporates Team Work and Flexibility into their daily work style
Experience as a camper or working with children
Ability to supervise and organize youth and adults
Ability to plan and lead programs
