Reporting to the Associate Director of Campus Life, the Assistant Director is responsible for the leadership and development of involved students at UMBC. The incumbent advises the Student Government Association and supervises staff who are responsible for areas such as leadership, intellectual student organizations, and other student life related functions. This position requires that the incumbent work closely with internal and external constituents to help create and enhance a vibrant student life experience on campus. Specific duties include: managing a budget and providing appropriate assessment and evaluation for major initiatives; supervising exempt, graduate, undergraduate, and contingent staff; interpreting institutional policies, procedures, mission, and philosophy in their daily work with students and their concerns; and performing other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a Master's degree in Student Affairs or related field and at least one year of staff supervision. Experience in Student Affairs or Student Services also required.
Three years of student activities related experience
Strong commitment to and understanding of multicultural issues is highly desirable
Demonstrated commitment to meeting the needs of diverse student populations and student organizations
Ability to interact effectively with broad campus constituents and partners
Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Excellent organizational and time management abilities
Comfort with high-paced, dynamic work environment and strong team player mentality
