The mission of Hidden Valley 4-H Camp is to provide youth with a fun, residential camp experience under the guidance of positive role models that emphasize community building, positive social interactions, environmental awareness and skill building. The STEM Coordinator is responsible for the planning, oversight and leading of all animal science, Ag in the Classroom, outdoor education and HV4H STEM Girls programs. The STEM Coordinator will also serve as a cabin counselor.
II. Duration The summer camp season includes 1 Specialist week beginning June 25, 2018, 1 week of Pre-camp training and 6 weeks of residential camp that run from Sunday morning to Friday evening each week. Specific dates camp is open are July 8 - August 17, 2018. Additional weekend coverage will be required for 2 of 3 extended weekends. The STEM Coordinator will remain on camp until August 19, 2018 to assist Camp Director and staff in the cleaning and closing of the camp
III. Specific Responsibilities and Functions
Develop and implement engaging curricula-based Science and Outdoor Education programming geared to all ages, interests, and abilities based on the 4-H model for positive youth development
Implement and manage HV4H STEM Girls program and produce specified outcomes in accordance with the RACE Grant
Oversee activity staff leading any STEM program to ensure engaged and quality learning.
Supervise campers at all STEM programming
Oversee animal science programs and assign staff member to maintain camp animals
Order and maintain inventory of program supplies and maintain department budget
Serve as a positive role model in language, appearance, and behavior
Participate and provide leadership in all camp programs
Support and embrace diversity in all interactions with campers, other staff members, volunteers and parents. Implement programs that engage diverse backgrounds, interests and learning styles.
Other duties may be assigned as required
20 years of age or older
Experience working with and maintaining farm animals
Previous teaching experience with STEM or Science
Knowledge and experience in Rocketry
Ability to communicate effectively with Camp Director, entire camp staff, campers and camp families
Incorporates Team Work and Flexibility into their daily work style
Experience as a camper or working with children
Ability to supervise and organize youth and adults
Ability to plan and lead programs
